I would like to think that I have moderate intelligence (don't laugh), but the more I research Bare Escentuals the more confused I get.

I am a newbie to BE and don't know where to start? Do you purchase separate powders for your face, eyes, etc. or do you use the same powders for everything?

Are there any starter products/kits that you would recommend?

Thanks for your help.

www.sephora.com is where I order BE they sell a starter kit. I usually get summer bisque that I use as a concealor then I will use the medium beige as an all over foundation. and I follow up with the mineral veil. Very simple they also have eye shadow. I prefer the pop beauty eye color for green eyes. I order all my face stuff from sephora. I also get the cargo plant love lipstick from them it is completely biodegradable. The case is made from corn and the box it comes in is embedded with wildflower seeds!

There are starter kits that you can purchase, but the ones that I have seen basically contain what you need in the way of foundation and powder. There are some folks on here who may be more knowledgable about the different kits than I am though. I haven't bought a kit in more than a year now!

The kit that I bought contained 2 foundations, a mineral veil, a warmth, and three brushes. I did use the warmth (very, very lightly) as blush and eye shadow for awhile, but it just looked a little too orange on me. I do use the bare radiance now as both a blush and an eye shadow though! I have very fair skin and it's just the right amount of color for me! But most probably purchase blushes and eye shadows separately.

Over the last year and a half since I started using BE, here is what I have purchased: 1 starter kit, 1 foundation (after starter kit ran out), 1 mineral veil, 1 eye liner, 1 bisque (use as concealer), and 1 bare radiance. I haven't purchased much, as the stuff lasts FOREVER! :)

Enjoy the BE addiction!

You would start with a foundation shade just like with liquid makeup. You can use the foundation to spot-conceal blemishes, etc. then buff the powder all over your face. I also like using a finishing powder called Mineral Veil. These are the two basic components. From this stage you can add face colors, which are blushes, radiances and All-Over-Face Colors (AOFC). Blush is self-explanatory; radiances are very sheer colors; and AOFC can be used all over the face (as blushes, eyeshadows and even mixed with glosses for lip colors). After that you have a wealth of eye colors. You can use mineral foundation with your current powder blushes and eyeshadows. I'm not sure how well cream blush will work.

The starter kits listed at Sephora (or through Ulta) are good places to start. You will need brushes and these are included with the kits. You can go to Sephora, Ulta or a Bare Escentuals boutique for a "color-match" for your foundation if you live near a location. Sephora has a great return policy, if you order online and don't select the correct foundation color, or just don't like the product.

On June 16 QVC will have a Bare Escentuals kit available for around $50. It will include 2 choices of foundation, blush, 2 eyeshadows, lip gloss, 3 brushes and bags. Check item A72961 on the QVC.com web site. It is a good value for the products, but may not be colors you like. This kit also won't have the mineral veil--which I recommend to help tone down oily skin. Good luck picking a kit.

Thanks for the hints everyone. I am going to check our Sephora.com. I was going to buy the products from the BE website, but it looked like I had to join a club. I am famous for joining things and then forgetting to cancel on time.

I LOVE BE!!!!! They do last a very long time and I notice such a difference in my skin. Happy shopping

I bought the starter kit (as others have mentioned). It was def. the best buy(imo) b/c it contained all I needed plus the brushes. From what the woman told me, it was the best buy b/c if you were to buy everything separately it would cost a lot more $$. Plus, I liked the DVD that gives you the "how to's" b/c by the time I got home, I couldn't remember everything that the woman taught me! I ended up buying the eyeshadow brush separately and use it so much, so it was worth the money.

Once winter came about, I decided that the warmth was too bronzy for winter, so I picked up a container of Glee to use as a blush. Such a pretty color! Very natural, too. It looks dark but doesn't go on dark. I use the eye shadows as well ... currently, Cupcake and Camp. Once summer hits, I will basically only use make up if I'm going out somewhere b/c I'll be poolside most of the time. Then, I prob. won't use anything except the shadows.

I can say that I've had zero breakouts since using BE! My skin looks and feels great when I'm wearing it and I don't feel made up nor does my skin feel heavy w/make up. It's so light!!!

As for the mineral veil ... I find that I can use it every other day b/c there's enough left in my kabuki brush to carry me over.

The stuff lasts forever, which is a bonus!!! I never stopped to add it up but I'd be curious to see what I've saved since using BE!

No problem, Christa! This is where I found BE Addicts and I'm sooooo glad I did! I have learned so much there and just wanted to pass it along to someone else! :goodvibes

When you get it, remember it may take a while to get used to it. I remember the first time I put it on my face felt horrible. It was because I put too much on. If it's on right you should not feel it on your face. Start lightly and build up as needed. Good luck and welcome to the club!! :cool1:

I have been using BE for a while. My new favorite thing for summer is.....

Tinted Mineral Veil... mixed with Feather light Mineral veil....

Now I am very... very light skinned with freckles.. I use Fair.. BE so you know I am one pale gal... but I get more color in my skin here in SW IL than I ever did in CA.. LOL... so the tinted mineral veil with the Feather light Mineral veil gives me a nice summery hue .... without looking like I went to the local Fake and Bake! aka Mystic tan..... BE is great stuff... play with it and have fun

I'm so glad you are enjoying the webpages and forum! We are definitely fans of the line there!

I love my BE -- and I usually purchase my BE items at my local Ulta store. They have quite a selection. :thumbsup2
