Barcelona/Rome hotel/apartment help

We are currently set to stay at the Cavalieri next summer before our Greek Isles cruise. Anyone stayed here before? I know that you can get DCL transfers from here...

We stayed in Barcelona in an airbnb - 5 bed, 2.5 bath apartment for 9 people. Walking distance of a Metro stop, and an easy walk to Placa d'Espanya. Very easy to get to tourist attractions, and markets. I think we stopped at La Boqueria 3 or 4 times to get some seafood to cook at home.

The Airbnb was run by a company - AB Apartment Barcelona. The company seems quite reputable. Only drawback is that you do have to go their offices to check in and get the keys, and go back to return the keys.

For Barcelona I don’t have a recommendation, but for Rome we stayed at the 3 Inn Rippetta. It only has 3 rooms, we were a party of 8. One family in each room I can not say enough good things about our stay. It is basically an AirBnB.

Thanks again for all your help. I finally booked rooms..Hotel Barcelona Center, obviously in Barcelona. I did receive a message from them that they would try to meet our accommodations. I was hoping for two rooms, one for 2 and one for 4, but we might have to go 3 and 3.. This one may change if I find something better as we get closer. In Rome I booked Trevi Miracle Suite, they have been sending me messages about pick up and drop offs. They seem nice. My son is excited because it is in walking distance of the Pantheon..
I'll try to keep everyone updated as our trip grows closer so that I may help others!!

The cruise port location would be Port Olympic/Barceloneta. However, the city is quite walkable, and anything in Barri Gotic, Las Ramblas, or even some of Eixample would work. If you plan to do anything touristy in the city, I'd aim for the latter.

I typically book Marriott properties when we travel (since stays are free, due to accumulation of points from work travel), so I would be inclined to look for one of those. That said, this past spring a client put me up in the Exe Cristal Palace, just off of Placa Catalunya (the north end of Las Ramblas, and ground zero for touristy things). It was a very nice hotel, and priced reasonably. It is a fantastic location for seeing the city. (Many things are within walking distance, including Las Ramblas, the Block of Dischord, and La Pedrera, and the hop-on-hop-off touristic buses start and end at Placa Catalunya.)

Highjacking your post for all the hotel recommendations. We are a party of 3 cruising next June.

Hello! Our family of four did the Med cruise from Venice to Barcelona in 2014 and we stayed in Rome for a few days prior to the cruise. Our hotel in Rome was Hotel Adriano, on Via di Pallacorda, and we stayed at a hotel apartment on the Ramblas in Barcelona: here is the link https://www.citadines.com/en/spain/...um=gmb&utm_campaign=CitadinesRamblasBarcelona
Both places were quite satisfactory. Don’t know what the prices are now, as this was five years ago, but you can check :)
Hi Everyone!! We are going on the June 6, 2020 cruise leaving Barcelona and ending in Rome. The hotels Disney use have either no availability or are not booking these dates as of yet. Disney has not release rooms for these hotels either.. I'm feeling stressed that I need to hurry and find something soon, just so we have a place to stay. I have no idea where in Barcelona is a good area to stay to even begin a search. Can anyone help? We plan on hitting a few tourist places, the soccer stadium and the market.. My plan is to arrive on 06/04 so we have a day and a half to walk around Barcelona.
In Rome, I'm planning on spending one night, tow at the most.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Oh and I'm hoping to find something for $300 or less a night, per room. We need to get two rooms as there are 6 of us traveling. 4 in one and 2 in another...

Thank you!!!~ M

We are sailing the 12-night Rome to Barcelona cruise next June, with 4 nights in Rome prior and 4 nights in Barcelona after. In Rome, Hotel Smeraldo is less than €200 per night for a superior double. Nice neighborhood near Piazza Navona. In Barcelona, Hotel Jazz is €266 per night for a family suite that will accommodate 4. Located an easy walk from Las Ramblas.

Hotel Brummell =

We had a great time in our penthouse room with an outdoor bathtub. The staff is great in every way - they offered some awesome restaurants recommendations that we went to more then once.

It's a bit of a walk from La Rambla but it's a great place to stay More

Hotel Jazz Barcelona and Hotel Mercure Rome Colosseo. Both have roof top terraces and pools if that appeals to you.
Oh and by the way we are on that sailing too.

Yea!! I'm so excited...
What have you found for airfare? That's my next battle. I'm debating if I should Jut let Disney book it or book on my own. We live in NM, so I think we may need to take a separate flight to a larger city and go from there. jet Blue has a cheap flight to JFK, but then I'm at a loss... Any Ideas??

I’m from the uk so it’s easy for me lol!
However, my friends from the US usually transit via London or possibly Frankfurt.
If they do this they usually take a stopover of a night rather than take a tight connection.
Have never been on a Med DCL cruise so early in the season so I hope that the weather will be good.

The place looks quite nice! Good location too, in terms of proximity to stuff.

We did this cruise last year. You are going to love it!

In Rome we stayed at https://www.hotelconciliazione.it/en/ and I absolutely loved it. I don't think we could've stayed at a better hotel. The surrounding streets are pedestrian only and are filled with restaurants (all with patio seating), bakeries and a couple neighborhood markets. We had two bedrooms (family of 4 with teens) in a 1 room suite, each bedroom had a little balcony and at night we would stand out there and listen to music and watch people walk/eat down below. There were strung globe lights everywhere. It was just a dream. The hotel is beautiful, clean and the other patrons were all "normal". We were 5 minutes from the Vatican. I also liked that there were a lot of locals and residences mixed in our area. It wasn't a huge hotel compound. We frequently saw groups of nuns walking the streets and my daughter and I would spy, I mean occasionally look, at the family of 3 across the deck from us. We saw them cook in their little kitchen and their toddler son play in the living room. It was just a good vibe. Anyway, I never write this much, just shows how much I loved the hotel. Bonus- when I researched hotels this one was moderately priced at $325 or so. Included a decent breakfast and I thought it was worth it. Second bonus- I follow Giada and she posted pictures of her in Rome and she was in this same area. She's Italian, so..... ;=)

Enjoy your cruise!

Thank you everyone!!! I'm looking at flights out of Chicago. I was originally going to fly to NYC, but we would land at 6am and the flight overseas would not leave until 11pm.. I'm not the best traveler, so I don't think that would work. I'm so excited to experience Spain, Italy and France with my family....

You might look at Aer Lingus out of Chicago. We have flown Chicago to Barcelona (twice) and Barcelona to Chicago (once) as part of transatlantic cruises and will do Chicago to Rome and then Barcelona to Chicago for the Med./Greek Islands cruise from Rome to Barcelona next summer. All these flights include a plane change in Dublin, but the timing has always been quite good with reasonable time to make it from one gate to the other for the continuation of the trip.

We have also flown United/Lufthansa to/from Barcelona (via Frankfort one way and Munich the other) and to Amsterdam (nonstop) and from Budapest (with plane change in Frankfort) and flown American to/from Paris (nonstops) in recent years. We prefer Aer Lingus if we need to do a plane change because Dublin airport is very manageable.

When looking at booking an apartment please, please make sure it is legal. By renting illegal properties you are creating problems for the actual residents of the city. You can use management companies that are on the up and up. They must provide a legal VAT number for each apartment. The same goes for an individual who rents their own unit. If they don't have a legal VAT number look elsewhere.
