Hi Everyone!! We are going on the June 6, 2020 cruise leaving Barcelona and ending in Rome. The hotels Disney use have either no availability or are not booking these dates as of yet. Disney has not release rooms for these hotels either.. I'm feeling stressed that I need to hurry and find something soon, just so we have a place to stay. I have no idea where in Barcelona is a good area to stay to even begin a search. Can anyone help? We plan on hitting a few tourist places, the soccer stadium and the market.. My plan is to arrive on 06/04 so we have a day and a half to walk around Barcelona.
In Rome, I'm planning on spending one night, tow at the most.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Oh and I'm hoping to find something for $300 or less a night, per room. We need to get two rooms as there are 6 of us traveling. 4 in one and 2 in another...

Thank you!!!~ M

Plenty of hotels are availalbe for that early, no need to stick with Disney's recommendations. Taxis are easy and plentiful and much cheaper than their transportation anyway. The Camp Nou stadium is outside the city center so note that will be more of a trek for you. You will need to book the tour long in advance if that's what you want to do. We stayed at the Four Points by Sheraton Diagonal last year and really liked it. Close to Sagrada Familia, could see ocean in the distance from our room, great restaurants/grocery store across street, quick walk to the subway. Note that MANY European hotels do NOT sleep 4 people - you're better off searching for 2 rooms of 3 people each.

For a specific hotel I liked Renaissance Barcelona Hotel (Marriott) Carrer de Pau Claris, 122, 08009 Barcelona, Spain. The rooms are small, but well appointed. It was near several bakeries, cafes, a McDonald's and a Starbucks wasn't to far.

For a general area I would look at the Gothic Quarter (Barrie Gotic), it's near Place de Catalunya (a main plaza of Barcelona and a favorite spot of mine) and includes La Rambla (pedestrian only street with restaurants, shops etc). Lots of hotels are in this area, prices ranges etc. A Hilton type hotel will run you $300-$400 (you can get some good sales) depending on weekend/weekday time of year, demand etc.

You have a few decisions to make.
a) Do you want a major chain, or do you want the charm of a independent or small chain
b) How comfortable with using public transit are you? In Barcelona, the gothic quarter and Las Rambla are near everything BUT the Sagrada Familia
c) What are your big focuses? For both Rome and Barcelona, 1-2 days is a drop in the bucket towards everything to see

My personal favorite in Barcelona is the Hotel Colon, which is near Las Rambla and the Gothic Quarter.
In Rome, the city is really broken up into sides of the river; so take that into account. The Pantheon Collection is a small chain of upscale boutique hotels, and some of their rooms do sleep 4 (In July my family stayed at the HT6)

With the size of your party you may want to take a look at an Airbnb or one of the apartment style hotels like Casp74. TripAdvisor has a section for specialty lodging that usually includes most apartment style hotels.

We stayed in an AirBnb in Rome (September 2018) - it's always a chance when you're booking apartments overseas, but this one was great - Danny & Daniella are the hosts and the apartment was spotless, air conditoned, is has three bedrooms, and the building has an elevator; it's in the Vatican area and is about 4-5 blocks to the subway. I have no vested interest in recommending, we just had a really good stay there!

It's listing 19755583, title = DnD House - Vatican Museums

We're staying in Barcelona after the 2020 TA. We're staying at the H10 Cubik. It's in the gothic quarter, has great reviews and they're running a special right now that if you book on their website, you get a free daily breakfast. I booked it today.

Have to agree with the 3 + 3 suggestion. Rooms are tight and triples were hard to find. We stayed at the Hotel Mare Nostrum right off Las Ramblas for 142 euros in 2017. There was only enough room for the three beds pushed together, but it was a place to sleep and convenient to everything. Since it was not facing the boulevard, there was no street noise from the crowds. In Rome we did an Air BnB to get a roomier place for a longer stay.

Someone recently posted that the Euro Cup 2020 starts in Rome on June 12, so I would think getting a hotel ASAP would be very important. I would definitely try to stay two nights though, Rome is so amazing!

The Gracia area is very nice in Barcelona. We stayed in an Airbnb with the locals. It was nice!

There is so much to see in both cities, I’d consider extending your stay on both ends! We sailed in/out of Rome this summer and spent 5 nights in an apartment in Trastevere beforehand...it was perfect! We are a family of 6, so apartments are easier for us in Europe. I booked thru hotels.com
I also wouldn’t stress about booking this early. There is was still enough availability when I booked in early May for our June stay.

We also stayed at the Renaissance and liked the hotel as well as the location. A short leisurely walk to food, shopping, coffee, etc.

In Barcelona, we stayed at the Le Meridien in Las Ramblas. The location was perfect. Right by the metro (although we didn't use it), lots of great food and fun in the area. The breakfast buffet was great with the food comes from La Boqueria. Also, you can walk to the Disney Store from there!

In Rome, we stayed at the most amazing Air BnB!
Here's the view from my room.

It only fits 2 people, but the location was perfect! So while that one won't work for you, you could search within that location. There was also a hotel, Hotel Cosmopolita Roma, by the coffee shop that I loved, that I'd consider if I had more people.

We also did food tours in both cities, which I highly recommend!!

We stayed at that hotel a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Great location, comfortable rooms.

I stayed at Hotel Cuitat Barcelona because it took four people and was reasonably priced. My kids were young toddlers too at the time so I wanted cribs. It had a long bed and a couch as I recall. Plus a huge bathroom with a tub, which is unthinkable in Europe. It is in the gothic section, but near the park with the zoo and an easy distance to Las Ramblas. No breakfast but they had it available for a fee. They provided free bottled water which was a unique perk.- It doesn't list four on the site anymore but they do have two triples. My kids were under two so we may have been in a gray area that we could have four in the room.

I do a lot of home and apartment rentals. Your visit is not easily set up for one because of the short stay. Most places want 3 night minimums, but I have found some will take two (and they only take one night usually if they are near the airport or between stays with random openings.) By the time you pay cleaning fees it will probably not be worth it. Barcelona is one of the stricter cities as far as short term apartments, so any of the main site seeing areas will not have apartments you can legally rent.

The soccer stadium is out on the opposite side of the city. Just use public transit or take a cab. For most people, Las Rambles is where you will want to be.

We stayed at Hotel Colon this summer on the tail end of our cruise. Great location but the bell staff held our bags until our room was ready and one was stolen from the bell room. Either way, if you stay there watch your bags. They comped us a dinner and I pressured them for compensation. I got a police report because I lost over $1100 worth of valuables. I did get reimbursed about $600 from the hotel insurance policy.

On the start of the trip we stayed at an H10 hotel which is a chain. It was lovely and had a better rooftop area than the Colon. We liked it a lot. It was the H10 Madison. We also needed two rooms. It was right around corner from the Colon. We liked the location a lot.
