Can you please give me some recommendations for some good hotels in Barcelona.

What's "good" is going to vary depending on your budget, family needs, where in Barcelona you want to stay, etc. We found a lot of good recommendations on TripAdvisor for both apartment rentals and for hotels. If you're a group of 4 or more and want to share a room, you might be better off trying to rent an apartment. All depends on your needs.

Good luck!

Depends on where/what you want. I'm staying at the Hesperia Tower by the airport for $75 per night on Priceline. I found an even better special AFTER I'd booked that...on travelzoo. The down side is that it's by the airport but has free shuttle to downtown, 10 Euro shuttle to the port. There's not much to do right around the hotel...but it is a 5* hotel. So...it depends on what you're looking for. THere are lots of hotels downtown and in the La Rambla area.

Travelzoo is offering the Eurostar Grand Marina in a package that includes breakfast for $170. This is an amazing hotel, the closest hotel to the terminal with bus service right outside to the rest of the city. It's like $500 per night thru Disney!

I guess I should specify that I am looking for a lower end (about 100 euro) per night, clean, in a safe area and near the port. Is this too much to ask you think? :)

I will try travelzoo, Thanks :)

We are staying at Coronado on the day before the cruise and Hotel COntinental for two days after the cruise. The first night we just want a basic place close to good restaurants/the park with the fountains, and somewhere walkable to the port. We are taking the aerobus to placa cataluna and then the metro to the hotel. We are just walking back to the hotel continental after the boat docks or taking a cab. It's 1k away.

We got our hotel http://www.hotelcoronadobarcelona.com/ --- at www.booking.com for 59 euros including free wifi, breakfast, etc. Hotel continental http://www.hotelcontinental.com/web/biznietos.php?apartado=63&Plugar=1&opcion=4&barcelona

we stayed here: hotel atlas barcelona

it was relatively cheap, clean, and about a 10 minute walk to the port shuttle bus (which cost 1euro pp). they also have free internet. it's on las ramblas so you can walk to a ton of stuff from it. but they only have 2 person rooms so if you have kids going with you you probably won't be able to stay there.

I would not count on walking to/from either hotel and the port where the Magic is docked. There is a LONG, rather steep bridge that you must go up & over to get there, and if you have *any* kind of luggage with you, I think you'd really regret it. I took the Blue Bus from the Columbus monument to the dock, and there was a couple who kept saying "we really were going to walk there" -- until they saw the bridge, and they just looked at me and said "No way!".

I'll put in another vote for the Hotel Eurostars Grand Marina. I got a great deal on it through travelzoo. It's a beautiful hotel, right at the port (although you still need a cab or something to get to the Magic). Large, well-decorated rooms, and wonderful views of the city or the port. It's walking distance to the Columbus monument and Las Ramblas. Has a great breakfast buffet (although it's pricey if you don't get or use the 2-for-1 special). I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

My thoughts exactly as I read the post about walking tot he hotel 1K away. I'm not sure where they measured their 1K (Magic's dock vs. some other dock), but the Magic was about as far away from the town stuff as it could get. We rode past many other cruise ships in the dock area before we got to the Magic's space. I don't think there is anything walkable from the terminal if you have any luggage.

We stayed at the Novotel City which admittedly is a little way out of the main town, but adjacent to a Metro and over the road from the Hop on Hop Off bus stop. The Cathedral is also walkable from the hotel, although takes around 20 minutes.

The current cost - I booked again yesterday for our next trip, is £89 for a room which sleeps four - children are free of charge, this includes breakfast, which was a fantastic affair, not just a buffet, but eggs cooked to order, bacon etc. etc. Just over the road is a shopping mall, with a Disney Store!!!!!! A Carrefour supermarket, a wine shop and an area full of restaurants, that is open until about 11.00pm.

There is a pool on the roof, although it closes at 6.00pm, and a terrace bar up there as well.

We looked into staying down on Las Ramblas, but most were over our budget and those that were within it were booked up! Also as we have a five year old, we wouldn't really get the benefit of wandering out late at night.

We got a taxi from the airport, which was about 26 euros and took about 30 minutes. However, we could have got the airport bus to Placa Catalunya and the metro a couple of stops on the direct line.

We shared a bus to the port, through our Dis board meet, but I think it was around 25 euros to the port in a taxi. You certainly can't walk it from the bottom of town, it is a long way down a very long pier!!!

Hope this helps.

When I said walkable to the port I meant the Columbus statue. Isn't that walkable to that point and then you can just take the port shuttle to the cruise ship?

Oh, yes. That is definitely walkable, at least for the Hotel Continental. I'm not so sure where the Coronado is located...

that is even closer in distance so we will see. It is right near the paralel metro stop. But is the Continental any good? I hear good things but reading trip advisor it makes me nervous. Coronado is crazy cheap and as long as it is clean and I don't get bed bugs I am happy. :rotfl: I just need a place to crash that night before we leave. How easy is it to catch the port bus at the monument?

We also stay at the Novotel (new hotel built this year) for just eur 75 breakfast incl, for the 4 of us and it even has a swimming pool on the roof where we will let the girls swim.

The port bus (Blue Bus) is a little difficult to find; it's not very well marked, and nobody I asked had a clue where it was. It's on the outside water side of the circle around the monument, and there's a little kiosk and a covered bus stop. Just leave yourself plenty of time. I waited in line an hour & a half because there were 5 ships in the port, and only one bus running. The line was pretty long, and since the round trip seemed to take the Bus about half an hour, it took a while...

I have no idea about the Continental, sorry, I don't know of anyone who stayed there.

So The Continental is in walking distance to the ship but the Coronado isn't?
Thanks so much for your help :)
