Barcelona, Spain Hotels...Any Suggestions?

We used Priceline for the 09 EBTA because we needed 2 rooms each night for DH and our kids. I booked it a couple of months ago and it was about 500 including taxes for the 2 rooms for 2 nights. The 4 star hotel we received was the Silken Gran Havana which looks like it's in a good location. I would have preferred the new W hotel or the Hotel Arts or something nicer but we figured we'd be spending enough on the trip already we couldn't justify it.

Right I kind of feel the same way. This trip is costing a fortune (well for us anyway) so I am trying to be conservative with the Barcelona hotel. I am glad to hear you got such a good deal on priceline. I have never used them but have herd good things.

Did you book online or over the phone at this new Novotel Barcelona City hotel? I tried this morning on line and there are no rooms available. Thank you !

We have booked here for our Westbound Transatlantic next year. We got a good deal of 79 euro a night. It is not open till January, so at the very least it will be new and clean for 1 night.
I have no idea about position though? Does anybody know Barcelona, Is this an OK position? TIA

Looking at it its a bit of a trek out of the main area in Barcelona (La Rambla) and the port. You are probably going to need to use a bus to get around or a taxi. You are near Parc de Montjiuic and Sagrada Familia which is beautiful.

This bus looks great value for getting around:

We booked online, we tried a few times and there were no rooms available, then I looked again about a week later and there were rooms available. Maybe they release the rooms in blocks??? Maybe ringing them direct may be more accurate to what's available.

Thanks for that info. I don't think we'll have much time to look around the city anyway. We will be flying for 32 hours, checking in to the hotel around 2, the day before the cruise. So I expect we'll be exhausted and just looking for a bed for a few hours before we board the cruise the next day!!!
We'll catch a taxi to the port.
Thanks again :)

I wanted to share our recent Barcelona Hotel experiences with those planning a Med. cruise. We ended up switching our May DCL cruise to a Nov. RCCL cruise due to final exams at our children's new school. We arrived the night before and stayed at the Atenea Mar (priceline $100). This was a great hotel! It is a little isolated (close to the beach and port-but not much else)-but all we did that night was sleep! The staff was very accomodating-calling taxi's for us to go eat at the Olympic Port (I think it was 12 euros for all 5 of us) and again in the morning for the cuise (around 26 euros due to luggage). We had two rooms-3 in one room and 2 in the other-they even brought in a roll away for us at no extra charge. Once again, a little out of the way-but perfect if you just want a quiet place to sleep!

On the return we stayed one night at the Marriott Renaissance at the airport (actually a good 5-10 minutes from the airport) (2 rooms on points-great savings!). This was also a good choice for us as they allowed 3 in one room and 2 in the other-which is hard to do in Europe! This hotel has a shuttle from the airport and also a sign up for a shuttle to and from the port (5 euros per person). In addition, they had a free shuttle into the city that dropped us off right in front of a hop on hop off tourist shuttle (21 euros per person-but a great way to see the city). This was a great place to stay if you have an early flight and want to be close to the airport. If you are staying longer in Barcelona-you may consider a more centrally located hotel-but, if you just need a place to stay pre & post cruise-both of these hotels worked well for us and were reasonably priced!

We'd also like to highly recommend Barcelona-shuttle-service.com for large families. I booked them in advance to take us from the airport to the hotel and from the port to the hotel-and they were on time, professional, and no hidden fees! It is hard to get a taxi for more than 4 people-luggage is extra and you will end up paying for two taxi's-we felt very fortunate to be greeted in the airport and port and not have to worry about finding enough taxi's to accomodate our group and luggage! Hope this helps someone...

Thank you! What a great amount of information. Do you remember how much your transfer was? And did either of the hotels offer 4 to a room? We're traveling with 7 in our party and hoping to catch flights so that we don't need a room, but in case we do have to I'm keeping my eyes open! Great price on priceline! :)

The transfer was 149 euros-which is about what we would have paid for 2 taixi's plus luggage-the extra price was worth the peace of mind knowing that someone was waiting for us! They also offered a tour of the city for an extra fee... Both hotels had doubles and kings available-and the Atenea Mar provided the free rollaway and connecting rooms. Both hotels were very safe with exceptional staff. Please be prepared to safeguard your bags while you are in the city as someone in our group lost their wallet while we waited for the bus at the city center.

Just another thought-we were very glad that we booked rooms pre/post cruise as we had tight connections both ways. On the return, our boat was diverted to Toulon as there was a labor strike in Marseilles. RCCL then bused everyone on their tours to Marseilles-but this change led us to arrive late in Barcelona-not sure if we would have made the 10:00 a.m. flight-they may have later flight during the summer since this is their busy time of year...

We stayed at Marriott Renaissance at the airport. Loved the hotel & I have to say, it was one of the best breakfast (buffet) in all of the hotels we stayed at.

We actually shared a ride with another family to the port. We called I think the name was Angie's taxi.

Did you have a great time???

Both hotels called the taxi's for us. The Marriott actually had a guy from the main taxi company coordinating the taxi's for everyone since the hotel shuttle didn't start until 5:00 a.m.-it was all very efficient.

We had an amazing time! This was our first RCCL cruise-we loved the boat-but missed the Disney "magic". This is a very port intensive trip-we went to bed early in order to be up for early tours-so only saw one show. Magic Show vs. waking up in time to see the Vatican-well, you get the idea... I'm not sure what tours DCL will offer-but we really enjoyed Pompeii, the Vatican and Colesium, Pisa and Florence, Monte Carlo, and the Marseille City tour.

There is a hotel in Barcelona called the Hispanos 7 Suiza that is an apartment style hotel that can accomodate 5 to a 2 bedroom suite. It is 1 block over from the Sagrada Familia and close to a metro stop and the hop on hop off bus. We have had relatives stay here and liked it very much.

great info, thanks!

Maybe this should be merged with the other Barcelona hotel thread.

Yep, I am on it!!! The threads will be merged to keep the info in one thread.

How about the Hesperia tower ? Does anyone have any experience here? Trip advisor reviews looked good and I was ableto secure a great rate but anyone with firsthand knowledge ?

Firstly, thanks for all who are posting their experiences on this thread. It is truly a Godsend!

Secondly, my head is swirling w/ info. I was pretty much set on Hotel 1898, but I'm concerned that the area may not be the safest???

Has anyone stayed here or the Meridien (which is right across the street)? 1898 is supposed to be a 5* resort, but some of the reviews I've read on other websites have got me a bit nervous. Basically, I don't mind paying a large amount of money, as long as I get a clean, safe hotel.

Any comments on Hotel Gaudi that you can share? I'm wondering if it is in a safe enough area. I have read online that the southern part of La Ramblas may be too loud and a little seedy at night. No idea if this is true. We are trying to pick a reasonably priced hotel for family of 4 with younger children and hotels like Hotel Gaudi or Hotel Regina both are reasonably priced though Hotel Gaudi is cheaper but wondering if staying toward other end of La Rambla near Catalunya metro stop would be a better alternative.

I would be interested in any input anyone has on Hotel Regina if anyone is familiar with this hotel in Barcelona or stayed there.

We stayed at the Marriott Renaissance by the airport in 2007. The hotel was modern and convenient, however, when we arrived back the second night the ceiling was RAINING down water over the shower. We asked to be moved and we were told that the hotel was booked for the night! After insisting on a move, we were put in another room. The next morning the ceiling was RAINING over the toilet, much worse than the night before. The maid came and looked and went running down the hall. The lobby was full of guests checking in and again we were told that there were no rooms available. I just wanted to shower and GET OUT OF THERE!!!
