Okay -- so the year window will be here before you know it.

When we did this flight in 2007, we flew out of JFK on Aer Lingus with a changeover in Dublin. I am trying to find direct flights. We are willing to fly out of Newark, JFK, Boston, Baltimore or Washington.

Anyone have any tips on how to get a good one-way flight? Any tips on how to upgrade to a higher class?

Thanks.

I am in the process of booking the 11nt WBTA for next September, too -- also hoping to get a direct flight from NYC or Boston area airports -- have never done this cruise/flight before, though. I don't want to hijack the thread, but does anyone have any guesses or experience about how much the one-way flight to Barcelona will cost?

When we did it in 2007 -- the only decently priced flight was the one on Aer Lingus from JFK -- it costs us about $1,400 for one way. I priced out some things on Kayak yesterday using this September's dates and looks like it will be $400 to $500 more for one-way. I just can't believe how hard it is to find a direct flight. And we hated driving to JFK -- loved Newark though.

Almost $2000/pp for a flight is crazy -- no wonder this cruise price seemed like such a good deal, if I need to drop $5k just to get to Barcelona!

Oops, sorry -- that was $1,477 (with taxes) for all three of us -- not each. So now I'm seeing rates at about $600-$800 each, so it will cost us about $400-$1,000 more. That's why I keep shopping around.

The problem is when I booked in 2007, I booked at the 11 month out mark thinking that was a good idea to save from inflation. And then two months later they had a sale and I would have saved another $400 -- but the fees to do it outweighed the savings. So I think I am going to wait to see what else comes up in the next year.

I was just trying to see if someone had a magic formula for this LOL

I booked our PHX to BCN through cheapoair.com and paid $750/person round trip. Booked back in September for flights next week. The flight to BCN is a nonstop from JFK on Delta, leaves at 10PM arrives at 11AM the following day, you could do something like that and just not show up for the return flight.

I loaded the cheapoair app on my phone and checked several times per day everyday! Flights had been hovering around $1500/person then one day dropped to that price and remained there for less than 48 hours. Just my $.02

Thanks so much! That's how we got our airfare to London last year -- I doggedly watched Kayak and suddenly one Sunday morning they were showing British Air fares for less than $900/pp round trip. I jumped on it and less than 12 hours later they had rocketed back up to $1,200/pp. I felt we caught a window there and were very fortunate.

But I will check out that website. Have you ever used them before? Let me know if there are any glitches with your reservation, etc.

This was our first time using them, there were a couple hiccups at first with them changing a return flight time but I called them and they switched it back for us.

We are on the WBTA too! I saw a Delta out of JFK for around 700 a person I believe, I wasn't really looking for that as we arrive into London on August 29th to explore before the ship and it was just something that popped out at me as I was typing in random combinations to price check flights.

Thanks, but I can't book until October as it's for next year. I will keep price checking though.

Edited to add: It's so wonderful how this site gets you to thinking and seeing suggestions -- we were planning on spending a few days pre-cruise. I just typed in if we leave on a Sunday instead of a Monday and the prices dropped by several hundred! That may be worth paying an extra hotel night for, plus we'd get an extra day in Barcelona.

I don't know if I would fly them but I have friends who have flown Turkish airlines to Europe and rave about them, price and service.

I have seen they have some of the lowest prices, but I am hesitant also. Just found one called Aeroflot -- but you connect in Moscow and it's almost 15 hours total! I saw one yesterday that had you connecting in Casablanca -- talk about going out of the way!

Anyone flown Aeroflot? Is it a German airline?

For what it is worth, our friends who fly turkish airlines, have flown them business class about four times round trip and say they are up and coming and compare them to Emirates. They do get really good reviews online. But again, I have never flown them and would have to do more research myself before doing so.

Just looked up Aeroflot -- Russian -- and got horrid reviews in the past three years :sad2: Could be why their premium economy was so cheap!

If you're willing to do a stop over in Lisbon, Tap Portugal usually has good prices. I'm using them for my Europe trip next month...but I booked way in advance. With Taxes, we paid 925 for total of 4 flights (MIA-LIS, LIS-VEN ) and return trip, same way.

sounds great. Is that per person?
