Barbie may be turning 50, but she hasn't lost her ability to "inspire". She is apparently inspiring one lawmaker in W. VA. who obviously thinks that Barbie is a CAPITALIST PIG! Yup, he has branded her too materialistic. It was bound to happen when she had her own Barbie Dream House as a teenager. She had a nicer car than most W.Va. lawmakers, which no doubt has generated the animosity that she is now facing. Lets stand up for Barbie. Before we know it, Ken and Midge will be next!

West Virginia Lawmaker Wants to Ban Barbie Because She’s Too Materialistic

Charleston, W.Va. (AP) - Just in time for Barbie's 50th birthday, a West Virginia lawmaker wants to outlaw the doll.

Democratic Delegate Jeff Eldridge is proposing to ban the sale of the Mattel doll and others like her in West Virginia.

He says the dolls influence girls to place too much importance on physical beauty, at the expense of their intellectual and emotional development.

He joins others who have criticized the doll over the years for promoting materialism and an unnatural body image.

Barbie turns 50 on March 9, and the toy maker has made big plans this year to mark the anniversary.

Ok then they should get rid of MTV and reality television and beauty pageants. These are all things young people watch and are influenced by. What about toys guns? You could make the argument that they influence boys to be violent and abusive. Let's ban toy guns.

His heads going to spin all the way around when someone informs him of the "Totally Stylin' Tattoos" Barbie.

G.I. Joe, because he's a warmonger.;)

You know, I will bet if that little GI Joe machine gun made it into school, it would warrant a suspension at least! I think that there was a story about that a couple of years ago.

I appreciate you providing the information, but in an effort to help this nation survive and evolve, please remove the "Our team/ Your team" references... You know, donkeys and elephants.

Most politicians are a waste of space.

I heard about this and thought that it was totally absurd. Barbie is completely benign compared to what most kids are exposed to these days. If boys and girls turned off the TV and spent more time playing with Barbie, Ken, G.I. Joe, etc., the world would be a better place.

I know. Wouldn't it be nice. When I was in 6th grade, we lived in a small apartment as did most of my friends. When it rained we would play with our Barbies and Kens. When it was sunny, we would go to the baseball diamond and draw huge houses; life size "blue prints" in the dirt with sticks for hours.
Sprawling ranches complete with a "pool" and drawn furniture. :goodvibes

Eh, sounds like the dude just wants to get his name in the papers. Needs to get a life.
