Has anyone ever had their child's hair cut at the MK barbershop? I would like to take my son to have his hair cut there for something special. Is the wait long? About how much does it cost? Any info would be greatly appriciated!!

Thanks,
Melissa :earsgirl:

My son and I both got hair cuts there last summer. We went there about 10:00 and had to wait about 5 min. Though they did say that at times the wait is much longer. While there the barbershop quartet showed up and sang a few songs. The cost was $17. adult and 14 for my son. They also have special pixie dust for those that get a cut.

Best kept secret of WDW! ;) My husband and both my boys get haircuts there everytime we go to Disney World. The barbers are excellent, the cost is reasonable, and the kids love getting the "pixie dust". They also offer colored gel. My oldest loves getting the bright neon Buzz Lightyear green! :) It's really one of the highlights of our trip.

If you get there right when it opens (9 a.m.) you won't have to wait. I've heard that there's not much of a wait at lunch time or during the parade. They close at 5 p.m.

We got there in December about ten after nine for baby's first haircut and waited 30 minutes and then gave up as there were 6 others in front of us. We go again in May, and she sure is shaggy so we are hoping the wait time will be much less. It would be so great if they would take appointments.

For first haircuts they give the child a Mickey ears hat with "first haircut" embroidered on it and a certificate.

In general, they will do "pixie dust" and colored gel stuff for kids (or adults who want it, I guess ;)), and they'll pose for photos with giant scissors.

Just be aware, unless something has changed since 2002, they do not accept room charge (and maybe not even credit cards? ISTR having to go to the ATM because we don't carry much cash in the parks).

We got both of our boys' hair cut in Sept there, it was really fun, and they did a great job. My then 15-mo old got his first haircut, and he got the certificate and the Mickey ears that say "First Haircut" on the back, 3-yo ds got blue gel and lots of pixie dust. I think we waited about 30-40 minutes, but it was well worth it.

DH and DS did this right after the Crystal Palace Breakfast and there was no wait. DS got a complete buzz (normal cut now!!) and it was $5. Cheapest entertainment for our entire stay. I'm sure it was so cheap because it was a buzz cut.

My DS & DH loved getting their cuts during our last trip (Thanksgiving). Billie is GREAT!! She did a great job entertaining my son during the cut. We had to wait 15minutes, Thanksgiving Day. The cost is reasonable ;)

Thanks Tara, I didn't see that...I must have been having a blonde moment! :goodvibes

teeheehee -- no problem! I always find myself surprised when we come across a place that won't take room charge -- I'm sure the ATM closest to the barber shop gets a lot of use just for that reason! :)

They can take a regular credit card, they are not "hooked up" to the system for the room charges. I ended up having enough in disney dollars and used those, instead (hubby and son).
The wait all depends. If you dart right there at gate opening and you are quickest, you are set...but after that, i have witnessed the line get several people long on my last 2 trips (sept and feb). We were the 1st ones there in sept and 2nd in feb. Both times, by the time we left, the line was about 8-10 people long. We have, also, gone at lunch time and the line was really long...so we went to have lunch and went back after and only waiting about 5-10 minutes. So, it all depends. If it's too long of a line when you go the first time..try another time, it could be better, but it also could be worse :cool1:

We went this past October and I tried to take my then 2 year old for her first hair cut (yep, she was bald for a long time). I was disappointed because we went right when they first opened and tried back repeatedly throughout the day on two separate visits, there were always 4-5 kids in front of us. Oh well, you can usually see the strollers lined up outside, so that will give you some clue heading toward it how many people are already there. Maybe we'll get lucky next trip. Good Luck.

do they do "adult" girls hair? Curious as to if I could manage a trim while there! Ifnot I will make my stepbro get his cut!!!

They will cut anyone's hair that wants it cut. We have seen parents there get the wild colors in their hair and the kids love it.

They do take credit cards. They run it through the old carbon type imprint machines.

We were there a couple of weeks ago around 11:00 and there was only a 10 minute wait. Had we been 5 minutes earlier, there would have been no wait.

My Uncle Barry got his hair cut at the Main Street Barber Shop! They did a very good job! :earsgirl:
