OOPS!
I just accidentally posted the same thing under my screename and GF's screename. I guess let's kill this thread and go with the one with the same title posted by themarquis. Sorry everyone.
I was reading another thread here in which people--across the political spectrum--seemed excited about the possibility of Barack Obama being president. (Or, at the very least, I saw almost no one who seemed to dislike him.)
Why? Is it his personality? His speeches? Where he stands on the issues? Something else?
I'll admit I don't know a ton about where he stands on the issues, which is why I don't have many thoughts about Obama. I generally don't "like" politicians except insofar as a) I agree with their views on the issues and b) they stand a chance of actually winning whatever they're running for. I assume Obama is in the mainstream of the Democratic party on the issues (I can't find anything online to contradict this assumption) so he's okay by me. But so is pretty much everyone else in the mainstream of the Democratic party or further left.
So I'm certainly not complaining about him or anything like that. I'm just curious as to whether I've missed something about the issues. Especially given it seems even more conservative/Republican people seem interested in him.
