Ok, I have a strange question. Let me explain my scenario. I have a UY of June. In January I made reservations for next December at SSR. In February I banked my remaining 48 points. But I just read that if you book your reservations prior to banking, they won't use the banked points against your reservation. Does this sound right?

Second question....now that I banked my 48 points, I've decided I want to go back in May. So now I need to borrow the points back. Does this go against the banked points, or will I still have banked points next year? What I am trying to figure out is that will I be in a position of having unused points next year that I can't bank into the following year.

Did I confuse you? :confused3

Correct. June 2006 use year points aren't available for a December 2007 stay unless you bank them. Since you made the December reservation in January 2007 before the points were banked, MS could not use them.

You can't borrow those same points back. Banking and borrowing are final transactions. The 48 points you banked now must be used for a stay between 6/1/2007 and 5/31/2008 or they expire. If you still have points left from 2007 (I know some were used for the December reservation), you may borrow those. If you do, the points must be used before 5/31/2007 or they expire. But if you take the trip for which you borrow them that will not be a problem.

What I would do, is call MS in a few days (after the computer problems are resolved) and ask the CM if he/she could reallocate the banked points such that they are used for the December 2007 reservation. That would free up 2007 points (for you to borrow back to 2006 or use between 6/1/2007 & 5/31/2008 or even bank to 2008 if you won't need them in your 2007 use year).

Before the CM does anything, though, make sure that you won't lose the December reservation - because to "reallocate", the CM wil have to cancel and rebook. Ask the CM if he/she can do this without you losing the reservation to the waitlist or another member.

CarolMN, thanks! I was getting twisted in my underwear on this one (not a pretty site :) ).

Shouldn't MS told you to bank the 2006 pts before making 2007 ressie? Or at least asked you about doing so?

It is not their responsibility to do this because you may have a reason for not doing so such as wanting to make a reservation in May of this year but not wanting to do it the day you made the one for December. It would be nice if they did so but they are not required to and it might be taken as a suggestion and then when someone changes their mind they come back at MS and say " Well the CM said I should do this and I want my points put back". I think this is why they always remind you that banking and borrowing are permanent transactions so you have that last second chance to rethink and change your mind.

It is the member's job to read and understand how their membership works and if they still don't understand they can call MS or better yet come to the experts at the DIS to figure it out. I know I have certainly learned a lot here about things to consider about using my points to the best advantage.
