Went to Great Wolf Lodge the other night. When I checked in, I gave them my debit card (I know-I wasn't thinking)

Anyhoo--The put the $350 hold on my debit card, along w/ the $416 package charge. DH was at home, and went online to do some banking. He about gave birth thinking I had spent $800 on a night at Great Wolf;).

He called me and I called down to the desk to make sure that what I thought was right. The girl was extremely helpful, and said she would call my bank, and have it reversed so that the hold wouldn't take a week to come off, as is the case with some banks.

Here is my problem. When I checked out they also reversed the $350. So now my bank acct is showing a deposit of $350, and a credit of $350.

Do I call the bank, or Great wolf lodge, or just give it time? I'm not trying to screw the hotel, or the bank, plus I know someone will figure the mistake out. I just would rather it be sooner than wait and take the chance of it getting messed up again.

TIA

I think I'd give it few more days to settle out. If it's not right by the end of the week-call your bank and ask them how to handle it.

Someone has no clue what they're doing.

The $350 hold was never taken out of your account. It was simply not available for you to use. So you shouldn't have seen any activity for $350.

I'd go to the bank in the morning.

Most banks show pending charges, i.e. authorizations on your account when you look online. Unfortunately plenty of bank employees do not seem to know the difference between an authorization and a charge. I can't tell you how many conversations I've had with guests at my hotel where they tell me "my bank says you charged me..." and there is no convincing them we didn't since clearly their bank must know more about charges than we do.

To the OP, if you give it a few days it should clear itself up.

That's why I said someone doesn't know what they're doing... there should never have been an actual credit to the account.

I work for a bank, and I'm not convinced that it will clear itself up. LOL. I would still go there tomorrow to fix the whole mess.

This happens to me all the time when I use a debit card at hotel. It always works itself out at the bank.

That's the way it's supposed to work... the hotel places the hold, you don't steal towels, the hold falls off without ever having a transaction hit the account.

The OP's scenario sounds different. I'd hate to have you let it go and then a month down the road have the money taken back out of the account!

Yes it usually just works itself out. However the hotel employee was trying to do something nice, and had the charge reversed immediately. It showed up as a deposit online yesterday morning, while we were still there. Then this morning, it showed a second reversal, and then debited my actual charges-$9.22. At this point I'm $350 ahead.

I'll call the bank if it hasn't cleared up by Wed.

I had the same situation happen in December in San Francisco. I was attending a conference and my school had prepaid my room with a check. I got to the hotel and they didn't know anything about a check ( to be fair this was the day after Christmas) and stated they had to put a small hold on my account. They held over 800.00. When I saw this on my account the next morning I went down and spoke to someone and said that this amount was unacceptable. They finally agreed to credit my account. When I checked my account on Monday I had 800.00 too much in my account because the hold they put had already dropped off. This credit also dropped of within a couple of days.
