Banking Points strategy

This is going to be possibly a stupid question, I’m a new DVC member, please bear with me

June use year - 150 points

I have 6 points left in 2025 and I think those are a wash because I can’t find anything to use those 6 on. I had to borrow 2025 points for our April 2025 stay.

Here’s my plan. Will this work?

Roll 2026 points into 2027
Use those points between June 2026 and May 2027

Roll 2027 points into 2028
Keep 2028 points
Bank 2029 points

Use 450 points for Hawaii in 2028

Is this okay?

Yeah, that’ll work.

If you don’t have any travel for your 2025/2026 use year, you can see if someone needs a small amount of points and transfer them. It’s a pretty small profit but better than losing them.

June 2026 points are good from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027, so you don’t need to roll them into 2027 for a trip that occurs between June 2026 and May 2027. If you do roll them into 2027, they’ll be good from June 1, 2027 to May 31, 2028.

You could of course borrow 2026 points into your 2025 UY, which would make them usable from June 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026.

June 2026 points are good from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027, so you don’t need to roll them into 2027 for a trip that occurs between June 2026 and May 2027. If you do roll them into 2027, they’ll be good from June 1, 2027 to May 31, 2028.

No i don’t think you misunderstood. We’re trying to get used to UY and calendar year lol on top of a school year. We’ll get it figured out one day … I hope.

Trying to plan yearly vacations and make sure we have it figured out. I think we want to go back to Disney in the year 2027

2024: Dec disney
2025: April disney
2025: Aug Disney paris
2026: unsure
2027: Disney (using 2026 UY points)
2028: Hawaii (using 2027, 2028, 2029 UY points)

Our UY is September. As soon as we bought, we booked a cruise and a couple of visits within the first calendar year but over two UYs. In trying to calculate what we needed to borrow and what we’d have left, I got very confused too. So I created a spreadsheet, the most important feature of which is that everything is listed chronologically, including the points we get every September 1. So it makes it very clear to me which UY a planned trip is in and has made all the difference in keeping things straight!

I know what you mean but you would borrow 2029 into 2028.

And just to be clear, are you talking about 2027 Disney being June 2027 - May 2028 and Hawaii June 2028 - May 2029?

Yes. We would go to Disney in the calendar year of 2027 and Hawaii in the calendar year of 2028 that fall in our points year. I did not explain all this correctly

Here is what I found was the easiest when trying to figure it all out, Always start with the UY of your trip, and forget calendar year,

Then you know you can pay for it with banked points from the UY prior to the trip, points from the UY of the trip and borrow points to finish the reservation from the UY after the trip.

Example, you want to travel in January 2026…that’s in your June 2025 UY…you can use banked 2024, 2025 and borrow 2026 points.

Say you want to travel in March 2027…that is in your June 2026 UY…you can use banked 2025, 2026 and borrow 2027 points.
