I'm confused again!
We had 100 points from 2005 and 100 points from 2006 both banked, we have a December use year. We made a reservation for 11/07 at SSR using the 100 2005 points and 16 points borrowed from 2007. We changed the reservation to BWV and it is now for 96 points. Do I have to rebank those 16 points? I know I will lose the 4 2005 points but will I lose the 16 other points too?

I don't think you can bank those points again. I suppose of you talk to MS they may be able to override the system. I would call them & explain the situation!

Banking and borrowing are "final" transactions. In other words, if you borrow points for a reservation you cannot "unborrow" them later if you change your plans. So unfortunately the points you borrowed from 2007 cannot be put back into their original (2008) Use Year. They will expire on Nov 30, 2007.

I would still call MS & pe\lead your case. You might find a softee who can override the system because you truly didn't understand. Probably not but it worth a phone call to try.

I would not advise doing this for only 16-20 points. There is supposedly a "super secret, one time only" exception to the banking and borrowing rules. If a MS "softee" grants the request, you'd never be able to do it again. If it were me, I'd save that request for something more serious than 20 points. JMHO. YMMV.

MS has helped people out in the past, but based on reports I've read it is usually done when people have a family emergency. However there have also been reports that MS may grant a once in a lifetime exception to prevent a member from losing points, but apparently they will only do it one time. I don't know how they keep track of who has used their one-time exception and who has not, but it has been rumored here that you only get one chance to "undo" something.

ETA: I see CarolMN replied to this while I was typing and I'm relieved to see I wasn't off base with my comments about the "super secret" exception!

Thanks everyone, I'm going to call and see if we can add a night at a studio if they can't put the 16 points back in 2007. We'll just have to leave earlier to drive down than we were already.
Would I be better off renting or transferring the points if niether works out?

I think the problem will be availability - it's probably already very limited at the BWV for November 2007.

I don't see how renting a reservation will help you use the 16 points. If you need more points to reserve a night (I assume it is a Friday or Saturday night since no November weekday requires 16 points), you would have to either borrow from your next use year (if you have points left to do so) or have points transferred into your account.

It might be hard to find someone willing to transfer a relatively small number of points, though. You only get one transfer per use year (either into or out of your account) so many members prefer to transfer a larger amount.

Good luck -

P.S. Maybe you meant renting out the extra 16 points to someone else. You can't transfer points that have been banked or borrowed. So that means you would have to reserve something and rent the reservation if the 16 points were banked or borrowed. Again, I think your problem will be finding availability and then someone who only wants 1 or 2 nights. Good luck!

If you wouldn't mind moving, you might be able to reserve a night at one of the moderate resorts - a weeknight in a standard view room at a mod in November is either 16 or 18 points, depending on when in November you need the room. Friday or Saturday would be 29 or 32 points. Maybe not the best use of points, but better than letting them go to waste or waitlisting and not getting the last night at the BWV.

If it were me, I'd probably waitlist for the extra night at the BWV and keep my fingers crossed. If the waitlist didn't come through, I'd just leave a day early (since you are driving, anyway) and feel bad for 2 or 3 minutes about the lost points -

Thanks, I booked a studio at SSR for 21 points and waitlisted for BWV. We won't get in till late so it will just be a bed to stay in for the night. Staying at a Mod for the night was more points. We are checking into ASMU with rest of my family on 11/15, so it didn't make sense to do a day at the end of our stay at BWV.
