Banking Points and then using them the same Use Year

DVC Members,

I was told by a DVC guide that if I banked my points for the year (in the 1st 6 months of your UY) it would NOT be a problem to use them in the same UY if I changed your mind.

Is this true?

Example:
(UY starting in January with 200 points)
- February -> Banked 200 points
- August -> Decided to make a reservation for November using 200 points

This seems like a great way to protect yourself against losing your some or all of your points if you are not sure whether or not you will be able to use them for a particular UY. What am I missing?

Can't be done.

Once banked, the points can only be used in the following use year. However, you could borrow from next years points for a trip later this year. Points from this year banked into next year will expire next year unless used next year.

When you bank points from one use year to the next
the points cannot be used until the second year.
Period. You can't change your mind and "un-bank"
them. The guide was misinformed. Anita.

Same applies to borrowing. Once borrowed the points cannot be put back into their original Use Year.

Something still doesn't add up.

I can borrow points from the next UY to use this UY.

I can bank points this UY to use next YU.

I'm not trying to break the rules, just understand them:

Why couldn't I do this: (using above example)

1) Bank 200 points in February of this UY.
2) I change my mind in August and want to vacation in November of this UY. So I borrow 200 points from next UY.

I guess what I am looking for is: What are the rules for borrowing from the next UY? Do they conflict with the banking rules? The Product Understanding Checklist document my guide gave me does not stipulate any borrowing conditions.

Can anyone clarify this.

Thanks.

Yes you can do that scenario- the restrictions you have to keep in mind is that the banked points put into 2002 can ONLY be used in 2002- not borrowed back or banked forward again. For the borrowed points it's the same rule points borrowed from 2002 have to be used in 2001 and can not be banked backto 2002. The simplest way to remember is anything banked or borrowed has to stay put in the year they were transferred to.

You can do what you just said. If you bank you cannot bring back those banked points into this use year. But you can borrow points from the next use year. However, once you do borrow, those borrowed points must be used in the year into which they are borrowed because you cannot send them back to their original year.
