First off, thanks to all who answer my probably really dumb questions on this board! I so appreciate all the advice I get.

Okay...today's question. Not planning on traveling next year. Can I bank my 2010 points and use them in 2011 without messing with my 2011 points, which will be rolled into 2012 for a big trip that year.

I also planning on buying points, 50 each in 2010 and 2011. Am I asking for trouble by doing all this banking and buying.

I just want to end up with 200 points which will be used every other year after 2012. Just a little rocky between now and then!

In general--yes you can bank points into your next UY and member services uses banked points first when making a reservation. (You can always check on line after a transaction has been made to verify they've used the correct points).
For a more specific answer, it would be important to know your Use Year and intended travel dates. Some UYs --like DEC are tricky. For example, DEC UYs are still in the 2008 UY right now (until Nov 30th 2009).

When you buy another contract (or add on), the new points will be under a new contract number (or in the case of an add on in the same UY--a new sub contract number). These points will have their own atrributes as such....

What use year and how many points? If you don't plan to travel in 2010, but do want to travel in 2011, you will have to use all of your 2010 points before the end of your 2011 use year. They can not be rolled again into 2012. It looks like you plan a small trip in 2011 and a larger one in 2012.

When you do an add-on, those points will be a seperate contract, but are actually a sub-contract of your original. That means they will still have the same use year etc. As long as they are at the same home resort, they will also have the same booking windows. I think adding on 50 points at a time is a good way to go, since you can probably pay for them up front and not have to finance.

My use year is in June so thinking I would need to use my 2010 points by June 1st 2011?

I am planning on doing add ons through resale....I figure I have enough time to shop for June UY's. Would they still be sub contracts or roll into my original contract?

Banked and Borrowed points will (should) always be used first since they won't be transferable to another year.

As other's have said knowing your UY is important in the planning of your vacations. Also keep in mind your banking deadlines.

Your 2010 June UY points are valid from 6/1/10-5/31/11. If you don't use them you may bank them for use from 6/1/11-5/31/12.

When you do the resales be certain to let your agent know that you want them to end up under your master contract. In order for that to happen the title has to be held exactly as your master - down to the order and spelling of the names. They would be sub-contracts to your master but your use of the points would be the same as if they were all one contract.

So if I bank the 2010 in to 2011, I could potential use 2010, 2011 and 2012 at the same time by banking and borrowing. I would be doing a big family reunion trip in 2012.

Yes - if your big trip is before May 31st 2012 which is when your banked 2010 points would expire or need to be used by. :thumbsup2
