Hi everyone - we currently have 120 points with SSR as our home resort with a Dec UY. I recently banked 41 Dec 2010 points, giving me a current total of 161 points for Dec 2011. In summary, here is what my dvcmember page looks like:

Dec 2011:
Total Allotment: 120
Total Points Remaining: 161
Total to Bank: 120
Total to Borrow: 120


Dec 2012:
Total Allotment: 120
Total Points Remaining: 120
Total to Borrow: 120

Dec 2013:
Total Allotment: 120
Total Points Remaining: 120
Total to Borrow: 120

We are planning on taking a trip in the Fall of 2012, which would be in our Dec 2011 use year. We may need more than the 161 points, so I would plan to borrow from Dec 2012. We're looking to make our reservations around Nov or December 2011 for SSR (home resort). How early would I be able to request to borrow from Dec 2012 and 2013 if necessary? I wasn't sure if I can borrow from more than one year out at a time?

You can only borrow points while you are making a reservation that you need to borrow them for. Unlike banking, you can't borrow ahead of time.

For a trip from 12/1/11 - 11/30/12 you could use points banked from your December 2010 Use Year, points current from your December 2011 Use Year and points borrowed from your December 2012 Use Year. You could not borrow from your 2013 Use Year for any trip prior to 12/1/12.

For the trip in Fall, 2012 you could have access to 281 points for a reservation 11 months ahead.

You won't be able to borrow from 2013 UY since you can only borrow from one year after travel.

Everything goes by time of travel and not when you call. Since you will be traveling in your Dec 2011 UY, you can used banked 2010 UY points, 2011 points, and borrow whatever you need from 2012 UY.

That means, you will have a total of 281 to use for the trip. You can always call 11 months prior to your trip as MS looks at what will be available when you travel.

If you need more than the 281 for that trip, your option will be to secure a transfer from another member, rent the extra nights from someone else and have them link to your reservation. MS will sell you up to 24 one time use points but not until you reach the 7 month mark.

Yes. Any trip can use banked points from the UY prior to travel, points from the UY of travel, and borrowed points from the UY after travel. When you book and where doesn't change which kind of points can be used (other than home resort rules).

the main thing to remember is that your banked and borrowed pts are "stuck" in that use year and will expire at the end of that use year - they cannot be banked ahead.

if your new reservation takes fewer pts than your home resort reservation did, you will need to make sure that current pts are freed up in time to bank them forward to the next year. otherwise, you would need to use them for a stay before the end of that use year.
