I have a question about banking and borrowing points. Here is the scenario. Our use year changes in August. We have 106 points in our current 2020 use year. We would like to book a vacation in October, which will be in the 2021 use year. However, we may still want a vacation in July if we are vaccinated by then. But, that’s a big if. So, I don’t want to book that since our banking deadline is in March.

Now that I’ve listed that, can I do this…
  • Book a reservation in October using Aug 2021 use year points.
  • If we don’t know by the end of March if we can go in July, we would bank our August 2020 points so we don’t lose them.
  • In April we decide we can go in July of this year. Our 2020 balance is currently zero, but we did bank our 106 points into 2021.
Now, I know I can’t borrow the banked points back. But, can I change the October reservation to use the banked points and borrow actual 2021 points back to cover the July 2020 reservation?

Basically, can you change what points are being used for a reservation and reuse them in another manner?

Yes, you can do all that...with one exception. They have a temporary change to borrowing and you will only be allowed to borrow 50% of the contract.

Once you bank 2020 UY points, you will have to modify the trip to have the points changed out. It does not do it automatically. It can be done online or by calling MS.
