Banking/Borrowing and Use Year Question

I'm still a newbie with all this and I'm trying to wrap my head around something. Maybe it's because I have a December use year that is kind of throwing the dates off, but I'm confusing myself.

I have a 75 point contract with a December use year. I currently have bookings/plans for the December 2025 points that I'll be using in 2026 so those are taken out of the equation.

I'd like to plan a trip to Aulani within the next 2-3 years (it's my home resort, but I guess that doesn't really matter) using 3 years' worth of points by banking 1 year and then borrowing from another which would give me a total of 225 points to use in one year.

Let's say I want to travel in January when I decide to take this trip. Will I be able to do that in January 2027 by banking 2026 and borrowing 2028 or will I have to wait until 2028 and use 2027's and 2029's points?

I'd like to travel in January 2027 ideally because it will be a few months before my son graduates high school and as a homeschooler we can travel in off months. Once he's in college, I don't imagine this will be so easy. But for some reason, I just can't seem to make sense of this whole plan lol. Luckily I do have some time to figure it out.

If I understand you correctly, you'll have to wait until (calendar year) 2027.

Your 2025 UY is being used some time in (pre December) 2026.

You get your next batch of points Dec 2026. These are the next points you can bank. They go to your Dec27 UY.

You'd then have access to banked Dec26, Dec27, and borrowed Dec28 UY points for bookings from Dec 1 2027 - Nov 30 2028.

I have a December UY also, so I understand your confusion. Trust me, at some point it'll click and won't be so confusing.

Neither of your choices is correct in total.

Since your 2025 points are spoken for, the first opportunity you'd have to use three years worth of points will be your 2026, 2027 and 2028 points. Those would need to be combined into your 2027 UY (bank 2026, borrow 2028). BUT - and this is the kicker - your 2027 UY doesn't begin until December 1, 2027. So a January trip would have to be in 2028.

Maybe im wrong, but I don’t think this is correct. January 2027 will be in their 2026 UY. So they need to bank their 2026 UY points, and wait until their 2027 UY which will be in December 2027 to use those active year points and Borrow their December 2028 UY to Stay in January 2028 for the 3 years of points.

Planned Aulani Jan. 2027 falls into 2026 use year (12/1/26 - 11/30/27) can use
Banked 2025 points 0 (used for earlier travel)
Current 2026 points 75
Borrowed 2027 points 75
Total points available = 150

Planned Aulani Jan. 2028 trip falls into 2027 use year (12/1/27 - 11/30/28) can use
Banked 2026 points 75
Current 2027 points 75
Borrowed 2028 points 75
Total points available = 225

So the easy way to wrap your head around this first off is just ask yourself which use year your trip falls in.

You said you're wanting to go in January 2027. What use year does January 2027 fall under?

Since you own a December use year, it falls under your December 2026 use year which runs from December 2026 to November 2027.

Therefore, in order to maximize the amount of your points, you need the use year before (to bank the points) and the use year after (to borrow the points).

You would need points from your December 2025 use year, your December 2026 use year and December 2027 use year to fully maximize the amount of points for a January 2027 stay.

December is the most annoying use year but once you get a good understanding of use year it's really not hard to understand.

If you really want to go for a Jan ‘27 trip, you will need to cancel your plans for 2026 and bank your ‘25 Dec use year points before your banking deadline which I think is the end of July. Then at 11 mos before your Jan ‘27 trip, make your Rez with your banked ‘25 pts, current ‘26 pts and borrow what you need from ‘27 pts use years.

All points can be booked with banked point from the UY prior to the trip, points from UY of the trip. And borrow points from the UY after the tip to complete the reservation.

A January 2027 trip is in your Dec 2026 UY. You can use banked 2025, 2026, and borrowed 2027.

Ok I think I got it. January 2028 it is. It’s not the end of the world and we can make it work. I just couldn’t figure it out.
