Banking/Booking Question

I think I know the answer to this, but need confirmation. I appreciate all the knowledge on this board!

I bought in at AKV last year and got double developer points. I have a vacation scheduled for this August (2008) using all of the developer points, plus 4 regular points. I also want to book a vacation for February 2009. Do I need to bank my 2007 points before I can use them for Feb 2009? And as a corollary to that, the 4 points used for this August were taken from my 2008 YU (which I just realized) and not from 2007 which is what I would have preferred. After my 2007 points are banked, can I swap those 4 points, putting the 2008 points back?

I hope this made sense - I'm still new at this!

Your question is difficult to answer because you don't specify when your use year starts.

You do need to do a banking. Whether you can still do that with 2007 points depends on the UY. If your UY is Aug, Sep, Oct, or Dec, you can still bank 2007 points. Those points would be available for use on a Feb 2009 vacation.

If you have a use year before August, you've already missed the banking deadline for those points.

You can ask that the 4 points be changed from '08 points to '07 banked points after you do the banking transaction. However, there's no guarantee that DVC will be willing to make the change.

Thanks Dave! I should have mentioned I have an August UY, so I do have till the end of this month to bank my August 2007 UY points. When I call to bank, I will ask if they can switch the 4 points - I'm not super concerned either way since it's only 4, but it would have been nice if they'd offered the option to bank them and then use them when I booked this vacation!

I am thinking that as the baooking was made with developer points then the 4 points would of been transfered out of your account and they maybe able to transfer back in and exchange for the banked points, I am not too sure really. Just remember in future to bank before making reservations as then they will have to take the points that are going to expire sooner, sometimes they don't ask which points you want to use it is obvious to them or maybe the system did not show them you had 07 points as they were still in the 07UY and you were booking for a vacation in your 08UY.
