I have a possibly complicated situation I'm trying to figure out. First the basics: My family is taking two trips, one in Dec '18, one in Sept '19. We have a February use year and 210 points.

For the Sept '19 trip we are planning on staying with another family and are setting aside a minimum of 545 points for a grand villa or two smaller rooms which will essentially be any points leftover from this year, all of next years points and borrowed points from 2020.

I was hoping to build the maximum amount of a cushion into our banked points in case we need to stay at a more expensive resort or add more time/rooms/etc. by buying points for our '18 trip. That way I can bank a handful of extra points from this year and can still buy another set of one-time use points on top of that next year.

I know you can only buy one time use points for a current reservation and only if I have no current year points. So I'm asking, would it be possible to book a 80-something points stay, bank all my leftover points, and then call Member Services and add another night or two with One-Time use points? That way I would be giving myself an extra 20-ish points next year that I couldn't have otherwise.

There is no longer any requirement that current points be used before buying one time use points.

As to do what you propose it sounds reasonable to me as long as the two nights point total is less than 24 points, which is the maximum OTUP you can buy per UY and member number. The other thing is that you cannot book a reservation with one time use points until the 7 month mark.

Thank you both! It has been a while since we considered one time use points, so I didn't realize I could buy even when we had points leftover. That makes things so much easier!!!!

Yes, the extra night would only be 16-20 points depending on where we book and we are planning non-home resort anyway so the 7 month limit wouldn't be a factor.
