Banking After 7 Months

Hey Y'all -

We've made a reservation (in two pieces) for December using our 11-month window. The reservation required using all of our 2025 points and the second half required borrowing some of our 2026 points. We're hoping to make a change to the second half of the reservation at the 7-month window, but the result of this change will be that the second half of the reservation will cost fewer points. I know, at that point, my 2026 borrowed points cannot be rolled back to 2026 - they're considered 2025 points because they've been borrowed. My question is, can member services reallocate those points so that it frees up 2025 points (the differential between the existing reservation and the hopeful new one) so that they could be banked into 2026? (This would all happen well in advance of our banking deadline).

Thanks in advance!

I am assuming you mean that you have two separate reservations which together cover the total trip you have reserved, and those reservations have not been merged into one. I am also assuming all the points in both reserervations have the same starting use year month and are all in the same membership. What I am not clear on is whether that second reservation has both 2025 regular points and those borrowed from 2026, or has only 2026 borrowed points.

If the second reservation has both 2025 and borrowed 2026 points in it, then you can modify the reservation online )or by contacting MS). to a lower point reservation and the system will automatically first use the borrowed 2026 points toward the new reservation while removing 2025 points, which can then be banked, as long as you are still within the eighth month of the use year banking window.

If you mean that second reservation currently has only borrowed points in it, and what you really need to do is take those borrowed points that come out of the reservation and move them to the first reservation to replace some 2025 points, then it can be done online (or by contacting MS) but the procedure is different. You would first modify the second reservation taking out some borrowed points, and then separately modify the first reservation, while making sure whatever contract the borrowed points are in is included in the ones designated for the online modification of the first reservation. Then, when doing the modification of that first reservation, the system will use the 2026 borrowed points first and remove an equal number of 2025 points from that reservation.

Thank you! We were in the latter category, so I just canceled both reservations and rebooked them. Hoping that should solve the allocation problem - may give Member Services a call at some point before the 7 month just to verify, but I appreciate your help!

You are lucky you weren't at a resort where you might have lost your reservation to a waitlist! When you rebooked you should have been able to see which points the reservation was using. I'm not on the website right now but from memory it would say 'points expiring at the end of xxxx use year' for borrowed points. These would be chosen first by the system.

Did you cancel both at the same time and then rebooked both reservations? If all points went back to your account before rebooking anything, the first half rebooked should have picked up the borrowed points.

In future as @drusba explained, it would be wise to use the modify feature to reallocate returned borrowed points in your account. Much safer than cancel/rebook.
