banker or borower?

as we tend to go for 2 weeks in may we have always been borrowing but next year we are planing on going to DLC and we have 150 points left next year as we want to stay at a disney hotel i thought that it would be better to stay on points for 4 nights rather then pay cash but DW thinks it would cost more if you factor in the cost of transfering points out of dvc
Thanks for the replies

I borrow.
This way I don't mind paying my dues in January, before my points are even valid for that year.

I don't consider borrowing DVC points the same as going in debt.
My only real debt is my home mortgage.

I am glad that not everyone borrows their points, or the benefit may end up needing to be suspended.

I like that message. (Borrow, borrow, borrow) We're always at least a little borrowed. If I die tomorrow, at least I will have made that extra trip to WDW that I would not have taken if it weren't for "being in debt." We caught up some though. We usually make a June trip between the end of the regular school year and the beginning of summer school (yes, I'm a secondary ed. teacher), but my wife had her ACL replaced on June 6th, and we couldn't do it this year (extensive physical therapy three times a week since the surgery).
Maybe we'll be "out of debt" and able to do a lengthy June trip in June when I retire in a few years. Then again, maybe we should save some points for "Food and Wine" or "Flower and Garden." Then again we could buy more points or borrow some more. Hmmmm? Whatever we do, it will be blissful. I don't worry about point debt, only paying off $ debt so that we can buy more points. (Cash?)

There's a difference of opinion in our family. DH wants to have points banked, I want to borrow. I figure it's one of our rare opportunities to get an "interest free loan"-you get to use points now and pay the dues on them later .

Good point.

I think it depends on how far ahead you plan. We have banked and borrowed over the years. I know that in the past when we have banked and did not have a specific trip planned ( I know... this is considered heresy on this board) that there is an uneasy feeling about having the clock ticking on so many points. Right now we've already tapped into 2006 UY points so we don't have to worry about making good use of points for the next year.

One thing I do recommend is to plan a mega trip by banking and borrowing. In 1995 we stayed for over 2 weeks. That was a great trip!
