I have 259 points banked from last year that I need to use by 8/31 (September use year).

Playing with the dates, it appears I will have some "orphan" points no matter what I do....between 8 and 11. Is there anything that can be done with those?

Also, to conserve weekend points, I am thinking of checking into a studio on Saturday night then moving to our 2 bedroom on Sunday. Has anyone ever been successful in "keeping" the studio & having it be part of the 2 bedroom (thinking of logistics & not having to pack up all the luggage twice)?

I am not sure this makes sense - what I want to do is check in on Saturday to a studio (we would be arriving late), then check in again on Sunday to our 2 bedroom. Any chance that the original Saturday studio would/could be the lock-off portion of our 2 bedroom?

You would have to have a lockoff reservation, not a dedicated. They would have to find a studio that is open on Saturday connected to a 1 bedroom that is open or checking out on Sunday. It's possible but not guaranteed.

The way I see it you have two choices: use them or rent them. What you cannot do is bank them again or transfer them. Why not use them instead of "conserving weekend points?" If you need a few more, borrow from the next year and then you have no waste. If that does not work for you then rent them. It may be a little harder to rent 8-11 versus 100+ and you should not expect to get a premium price, but it is certainly not impossible. Just look on the Rent/Trade board for someone who just needs 1-2 nights and contact them. Even at $10 per point that is $80 - $110 extra to spend at the parks ... or on maintenance fees!

This is much easier to do when you go the other way...starting in a 2BR and going to a 1BR or Studio. In that case you just lock off the part you don't need anymore and stay in the other side. With a smaller-to-larger situation it will be more difficult. They will have to connect your Studio to a 1BR that will be vacant after that first night. It's possible, but I don't think it is likely. Of course you never know and it's always worth asking about. I'd give the resort a call 3-4 days before your arrival date (that's when reservations show up in the specific resort's computer system) to mention your situation and make them aware of it in advance.
