Banked points are used first, right?

This is probably a dumb question, but banked points are used first, right? Meaning if I get 270 points, but I only need 250 points per year and I keep banking the additional 20 points, my points will keep building right? For example:

In 2009 I take a trip for 250 points, so 20 points get banked.
In 2010 I again take a trip for 250 points, that uses 20 banked points plus 230 current points, so 40 points can be banked.

Following this scenario, I can keep increasing my banked points until I reach 270 banked points.

Is this correct?

Ms should use banked points before using current points. But you should always verify that before you hang up. It's a lot easier to fix it when it happens than it is after the fact.

And yes, you could have up to a full year's allotment banked.

Points may only be banked 1 time into the upcoming Use Year (2009 UY points can be banked into 2010 UY & must be used during that 2010 UY etc) Once points are banked they are not rebankable.

:goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Carol.

We have been told that the MS computer system forces the Advisers to use banked points first, but on a couple of occasions, some how they used our regular points first. Always double check with the Adviser and the Member website to verify your account.

Always verify your point balance by use year before hanging up. One time I still had plenty of current year points left and somehow they borrowed from my next use year. It took a couple of days to correct.

:)I am a new member....paperwork in the mail back to Orlando. So when you bank points, the computer system shows those points as a stand alone entity and the points just don't get combined with your use year points---so each time I make a reservation.....I should always get an accounting...and make sure they use my banked points first, right?? Sorry I am restating the post....it just helps me understand it better if I write it down.

Thanks for posting a great thread---I am learning a lot.

5forDiz, thank you for your reply. I am aware that points can only be banked once, but what I was getting at was that by using the banked points first, you can essentially continue to accumulate points from year to year provided you do not use all of your points.

So, let's say you bank 20 points from 2009 to 2010. That means you must use those points in 2010, but provided you do not need 20 additional points that year, you can bank 20 2010 points to 2011, thus it it really the same as banking 20 points for 2 years.

I agree with the advice to make sure they do use your banked points. I was told the system will automatically use the banked points first, but I always confirm this with them if I have any banked points.

Generally, they go over your points for each use year. I would pay close attention to this and maybe have the amounts already in front of you so that when they tell you the amounts you can confirm it with your calculations.

Also, if you have more than one contract, you can ask them to let you know the points for each one. I made a mistake of assuming that they took the points out of the contract I requested and when they gave me the total for the use year (with all contracts added together), I thought it was correct.

When I checked online at the Members only website, I noticed points were taken off the wrong contract. Since it was at the 7 mth mark, they didn't think it would make a difference to me. But it did, since I had already planned those points for Home resort priority. So I called them and they were able to fix it.

But this can be avoided by just double checking the points of each contract at the end of the call. I did request for the points to be taken out of one and not the other, but for some reason, it wasn't done.:confused3 So it always helps to double check.
:)

And, as everyone has mentioned, it is possible to have a whole years worth of points to bank. However, as you know, you would need to use all these bank points at the next use year or you will lose them.

:upsidedow However, from someone who seems to be in constant borrowing mode, I don't think I'll have that problem.;):lmao:
