bank points then decide to travel

If I bank my Oct UY points now and then decide next month to stay DVC in Sept, how does that work? Can I use the banks points on the Sept travel, such as "borrowed" points?

You can't use the banked 2012 but you can borrow 2013.

Correct. You would have to borrow your 2013 points into September. If you know you want to go in September, I would book now with your 2012 points. But that's me.

As stated above, the convention pattern is to bank your OCT 2012 points before the end of this month ... then borrow your OCT 2013 points back into 2012 UY for Sept travel.

HOWEVER -- here is a different way to solve the problem:
* Bank you OCT 2012 points before the end of this month.
* Have points from a different UY transferred to you. (Rent a block of points to be transferred into your account from one of the DVC Point brokers or a private party.)
* Book the SEPT reservation from the transferred points.

FWIW, I also have an OCT UY. We like visiting Aulani in Sept. I rented a block of FEB UY points through TTS that work perfectly for our summer/early fall travel plans and can still be banked into FEB 2014 by the end of Sept this year. Works great for me!

I think the idea is to book the September trip with transferred points that have a different use year so that you have more tine to reuse the points if you have to cancel. However, I wouldn't do that. If I were out of points, I would consider getting a transfer but not in your case - unless you want to pay for some additional one time points that you really do not need.

Go ahead and bank the 2012 points. Then if you decide later you want to travel, you can borrow 2013 points. If you have to cancel the September trip, the points will expire on 9/30/2012 if you can't reschedule before then. That would be true whether you used 2012 points for the trip or borrowed 2013 points. If you are not 100% sure you will take the September trip, it would be better to bank and then borrow if you decide to go after all.
