Bank Jobs application ?

I'm ready to start applying for new jobs. Got my resume all set and am good to go. I'm looking at applying as a bank teller or customer service rep. I am trying to come up with a good figure for how much I want to make. I was thinking of $10.00 hr. SOund right?

And if anybody is a teller or similar about how much do you make? I'm thinking it should pay me better than Target because they want retail experience which i have. At least I know the hours are better.

Former banker here, and depending on the area you're in and your cash-handling experience, that could either be right on target or a little high. But it is a good starting figure to ask for. I'm in North Louisiana and $10/hour would be a little high, but it wouldn't automatically get you excluded from getting an interview, especially if you had prior cash-handling experience.

That sounds a little high to me. Not a lot, but I would be careful about putting that down if you'd be willing to do the job for less. Depends on the bank and what area you're in.

Being a bank teller is a HARD job and I don't think a lot of people realize just how much goes into it. True of any job, I'm sure. But I know when I first started doing it, I was blown away.

Being a bank teller is a HARD job and I don't think a lot of people realize just how much goes into it. True of any job, I'm sure. But I know when I first started doing it, I was blown away.

Ha, I guess I should have been more specific. Banker's hours are great compared to the hours one would work somewhere else, like Target for example. (Not that there is anything wrong with those hours either.) I loved being off work by 4 or 4:30 everyday, having the same schedule every week, and not working Saturdays was wonderful. There was never any surprises when it came to scheduling. I only worked till 6:00 once a week, but I held a supervisory position for the last few years that I worked in banking.

i'm laughing at bankers hours too... we are open 9-5.. get there most days at 8 leave usually by 6.. we are open on saturdays 9-1 which means 8-2.. yup bankers hours are the best!! lol!!!

we hire our reps and tellers at $10.00 an hour. I think you are OK with that.

And side note, bankers hours!? I'd like to know who still offers them, because working until 6 on Thurs and Fridays and 8-4 on Saturdays is starting to stink!

Some banks around here are open holidays as well (Christmas and Thanksgiving are the exception).

Well, it USED to be that banks were not open on Saturdays, and most of the week they opened later and closed earlier. And no ATMs and drive-up tellers were exactly just starting up but no one used them.

I have fond memories of being with my mom as she raced to bank to be there just before it opened (to avoid lines) or before it closed (meaning my dad forgot to ask her for something way too late in the day.)

When I started as a teller (only cash handling experience I had was 2 years at Burger King) I made $7.25/hour.

I got laid off from that bank, went to another (with 2yrs teller experience) and made $8.10... then the original bank offered me my job back at $9.50/hour. When I left after I had my son I made $9.65/hour.

That was really good pay for around here... especially since when I started minimum wage was still $5.15. So, I'd say that $10/hour is probably OK for the application especially if they offer referral bonuses, some banks factor that into your hourly wage!

So True! I was Head Teller at a Credit Union for a bit. I wasn't prepared for the amount of anxiety that went along with that job.

I think 10.00 was what I started out at as a teller.

I have plenty of money handling experience, just not in a bank. Besides target I also worked at McDonalds a hundred years ago. I don't handle much these days unless i happen to have to back up at the registers, really not that often anymore.

As for hard work, bring it on. And my current hours are 7-3:30 during the week and every other weekend. Switched recently from 6:30am. This actually makes it harder for me to get my work done on time believe it or not. I don't mind Saturdays as long as its not EVERY Sat. and off on Sundays is a dream.

I need more money than I'm making and a less physical job than the 1 I have right now. I'm not making close to $10 hr right now and I've been there 6 yrs. If i had thought of banks earlier I might have left a long time ago.

Okay, my banker's hours were good. I opened every morning (around 7:30-ish was my arrival time) so we could get the vault open and start working on night deposits, but I left way before 5 almost every day. We weren't open on Saturdays. Small town in the Bible-belt, we didn't get enough business to justify opening all of our bank's branches on Saturdays. Only one branch was open and it wasn't mine.

My ONLY hours requirement is that on Black Friday I don't have to come in at 3 AM. That's right 3AM That was last Black Friday and I worked a 10 hr shift. And I know that around here not all bank branches are open on Sat. Some of them but since we're not like Philly, a lot of them are closed all weekend. That would be nice.

Well, that was fun, Finished applying to bank number 1 and took the assessment quiz. Not as much math as i hoped and not as much math as I feared. More like a personality test, terrific.

I'm supposed to get the results emailed to me within 48 hrs. I guess we'll see what happens. I'm pretty sure the math was right. I'm not always great on percentages.

I would love your hours. The earliest I can come in is 6 am and I would love to be earlier! I'm sometime impatiently waiting for 6 am to roll around so I can log in!

at bankers hours, I currently work in an in-store branch, m-f We're open until 7pm, Saturdays 'til 5 & Sundays 'til 4. We also are the banker, teller, loan officer, customer service rep, new account rep, financial needs analyst, retirement rep, all in one for not much money.

I work for a bank (but not in a banking center; I do ATM network research & work from home) and today my "banker's hours" were 8 am-just now (9:45 pm) with no lunch & no breaks. GRRRR. Mondays are the worst, though, as we have a massive report that comes out Tuesday morning, and my day was worse than normal because a great number of people apparently entertained themselves by jamming inappropriate things into several of my ATMs over the weekend , which means a boatload of extra documentation for me. At least it's OT, I suppose.

But still, I wouldn't work for anyone else. I love my job, and I LOVE my employer. My normal hours are 8-4:30 every day and I'm off all weekend, and it's lovely to get all of the bank holidays off. Good luck with the job search, OP!!

Well I guess I got good news in my email today. I passed the assessment screening and they sent me MORE screening forms to fill out and send back within 48hrs. to be considered for an interview. Also sent the dress code and a whole bunch of interview tips. I think this is the most involved screening I've ever done. Its my day off from target tomorrow so I will have plenty of time to get the forms done and sent back. Might start working on them tonight and then finish up and email it tomorrow. Might be a whole week b4 i hear from them again after I send off the screening form. High volume of applicants Well we'll see how I do.
