Bank/Borrow Points - Cancel Res?

Let's say I have a June use year and I want to visit WDW in November. I have no points banked. I will need this years points and will have to borrow from next year also.

I call in January (11 months) to make the November reservation and tell them about borrowing the points from next year. Something comes up and I have to cancel the trip before June 1st. Are the points that I needed to borrow from next year already processed even though the new year didn't start or are they still in next years allotment?

When you borrow points for a reservation, the points are "moved" into the Use Year of that reservation. If you later cancel the reservation, the points are returned to that Use Year- borrowed points cannot be banked and must be used before the end of the Use Year into which they were borrowed.

If you borrow points from your 2005 Use Year for a trip in November, 2004 and later have to cancel the trip (whether before June 1 or later) - those points must be used by May 31, 2005. The 2004 points could still be banked however, subject to normal banking deadlines.

If you're not sure, just make the number of days you can using current use year points. You can always borrow and make things later. Another option is to look at a smaller, cheaper room or resort (OKW) so less points would be involved. Then once you're sure you can go you can try to change to your preferred unit/resort and borrow the points at that time.
