My mom, God bless her, lives with us. She's 86 and hard of hearing.
We just had this conversation:
I had just called and left my son a voice message on his cell phone to be careful coming home from work tonight because there's black ice on the roads and they are closing the Garden State Parkway due to numerous cars sliding off the road.
My mom asked me how I knew about the parkway. I told her that the Herald (which is a local newspaper that sends out text alerts when stuff is happening in the county) sent me a text.
Mom: "A what?"
Me: "A text. They sent me a text."
Mom: "They did?"
Me: "Yeah."
Mom: "Did you fill it out?"
Me: "What?"
Mom: "The test."

Even my DD noticed this. It happened numerous times while on vacation in WDW. DD would say, "hey look there goes Goofy". Within a minute my mom would say "Goofy's over there, let's go see him!". This from the woman who SWEARS she has bionic hearing!
Mom tells me she has selective hearing -- she only hears what she wants to!
