While at Walmart this past weekend, I came across Band-Aid Friction Block. I remember reading posts about using BodyGlide or regular deodorant to prevent blisters. I'm trying to avoid what happened to me last year -- I got blisters on the top of my foot and the back of my foot due to the Crocs clogs. My solution this year is to not use the Crocs clogs and just stick to my flip flops which was a relief for me last year.

This "Friction Block" looks like a mini deodorant stick. It also costs about twice as much as regular deodorant. I wanted to get your opinions if this is worth the $5.50+ I paid or just stick with regular deodorant? Thanks in advance.

I have used a travel size Dove deodorant--it works great! As soon as you feel a hot spot just rub a little on--I did reapply it if I could feel it wearing off.

I have seen the friction block and just thought to myself that they are really making a killing on it.

Thanks for the tip, I have never heard of doing such a thing. For my family I insist on good walking shoes and I purchase them a good 6 weeks before we leave for WDW, let them break them in and then put them aside for the trip. Only my daughter has had a problem with blisters as she did not get her shoes broke in before we left. I happen to have a sample Dove.

Question, would other brands work?

I like the baindaid block works very well. I prefer Body glide, but if you do not have a sporting goods store that stocks it the bandaid brand works.

However the deoderant just didn;t cut it for me when I tried.

Don't get me wrong--I don't think this will replace broken-in shoes. I have worn shoes that I thought were broken-in, but after hours of walking I would still get blisters.

I think other brands would work. I think the original tip I read just said to use a solid deodorant. Good luck!

I think Bodyglide is the best. I use it for my feet all the time and I never had a blister. And I rarely had to re-apply.

I don't think the deodorant would work as well, and I think the few extra bucks you spend on either Bodyglide or the Blister Block will be worth it.

BodyGlide is well worth its little cost.

If you are a sandal wearer they now have a BodyGlide stick with a good SPF.

Top of your foot does not have to burn while the bottom of your foot is rendered blister-less.

I agree, even broken in shoes can cause blisters, lets face it many of us just do not walk 5-7 miles a day and our feet just are not used to that. (I read somewhere that the average person walks 5-7 miles a day in the average theme park). Our trip is not until Sept, but I am getting myself ready for that by wearing a pedometer and aiming for 10,000 steps per day (10,000 steps roughly equals 5 miles).

Again thanks for this info!

I prefer the Body Glide. I've used antipersperant, the Band Aid stuff, and also a product that Avon used to make (still does I suppose:confused3) that was called Antiblister block or something like that. They all worked OK, but for some reason I still prefer the Body Glide.

I have been reading a lot about Body Glide. What stores carry this product?

Debbie

I've purchased it at Dick's sporting goods for about $10 for a roughly deoderant sized stick.

We really like the Band Aid Blister stick. I have never used deodorant for blister prevention, so I can't compare them.

We looked EVERYWHERE for Body Glide (REI, Sports Authority, etc, etc) and nobody had it in stock. Luckily the Band Aid one worked great!

Since I cannot find any of the products mentioned around here, I just use stick deoderant. I can get a travel size of it and use it on camping trips also since we do a lot of hiking and it does help prevent blisters for me. I do make sure to use enough of it on the places I know develop hot spots. One swipe isn't enough - it takes three or four swipes at each spot.

I just bring a can of spray deod/antipersp. and spray everyone's feet before we start out for the day and this method has always worked well! No blisters when we use it. Forgot the spray when I went to DC in June and paid for it...even in same shoes...so it makes a difference. We just uses the Suave brand...thanks to a Dis member who recommend this about 4 years ago!

Yea! Our June trip this year was the first trip that I didn't get major blisters on bottoms of my feet. I used the Band-aid blister block. Put it on every morning. I also wore the wicking socks and my well worn brown privo shoes. No cute sandles or flip flops. I also did not get my feet wet. We usually get caught in at least one big down pour, didn't happen this time and I stayed off the water rides. Don't know what worked..but sure had the best trip ever. I usually end up not being able to walk at all on the last two days of our trip.
