I am thinking about getting a Bamboo Massage on the Fantasy. What was your experience in the spa?

I did the hot stone massage on the Dream and it was amazing!! I have had the full body massage as well. The massage therapist have all been good. Only thing to be prepared for is that they will try and sell you some products. I don't like that but the actual massage was wonderful! Do enjoy!

I've also done the hot stone massage on the Dream and loved every minute of it! The bamboo massage has also interested me, so I'm trying it on the Fantasy this September. :) If you sail after me (Sept 22), then I can post how it is!

We've done the massage at Castaway Cay and we've done the stone massage as part of the Couple's Choice on the Dream. It was wonderful and the only time we were not talked to about product was when we got the massage on CC.

DH has done the Hot Stone and the Bamboo (and as I type this I wonder WHY him and not me? :rotfl2:) He preferred the hot stone. The Bamboo is done with pieces of bamboo - I think it was just one diameter - about 2 inches - that they roll across the muscle with pressure. He thought the heat of the hot stone was preferrable. :thumbsup2

DH and I had the couples massage at the spa on the Fantasy. I had the hot stone massage, he had the bamboo massage.

Both were nice, but DH did comment that he missed the personal touch as practically all the time, the massage was with the bamboo poles being rolled on his muscles. It is supposed to be a good massage if you normally like deep tissue massage - you shouldn't feel sore afterwards like you could with a regular deep tissue.

DH is a runner and uses a roller "The Stick" after he runs. The bamboo massage seemed like the same idea so for my DH's birthday, I surprised him with the bamboo massage. After the spa person met with him, she told him they would "break" him if they did the bamboo massage and he ended up getting a hot stone massage. He was not a fan of the massage and perferred "the ones I get for free after a distance race"

I have a feeling the bamboo massage isn't for everyone.

I had a bamboo massage scheduled on the 6/16 Fantasy. The therapist told me that my muscles were too tight for the bamboo and recommended to switch to the hot stones, which I have had numerous times. I did & It was very good. He explained that the bamboo is similar to a very deep tissue massage and I would have been hurting. I would tend to agree, as deep tissue is not usually for me.

I always get a deep tissue, and had the bamboo massage done on our last cruise.

I loved it. You do feel a little sore the next day, but its worth it.

Enjoy !!!

I've had the Bamboo Massage a couple times and absolutely loved it!!! I was in a different situation in that I had an injured back (a fractured sacrum... yes, very bad timing to be injured like that before a cruise!). Because of my back injury, I had significant muscle tightness in my upper back and neck/shoulders, and even my legs were sore because of how I had to walk due to my injury. I went to the spa and asked if there was a massage that was best for my situation to help my muscles relax and just help me be more comfortable. They recommended the bamboo massage, but they said the therapist would do it with very light pressure, except in areas that weren't near my back (ie, she used higher pressure in my legs and feet, but it felt good because my legs and feet needed the deeper massage).

Boy, it was AMAZING!!!! I asked for the most experienced massage therapist, first of all, because I really wanted to make sure the person knew how to handle me due to my injury. I had a massage therapist named Kathy and I believe she was from the Phillipines. I HIGHLY recommend her if she is on the ship you are going on!! She has her physical therapy liscensce as well as her massage therapy liscensce, so she really understands the body well.

That said, I think the bamboo massage is meant to have high pressure, BUT you can ask for them to do less pressure if that is what you like. You don't need to have a massage where you are hurting the next day because the pressure is so high, unless that is what you like.

For me, I went into the massage with extreme muscle tightness due to my back injury and when I left, I was able to stand up straighter than I was before I came in and the pain in my back was less after she was finished than before she started. The massage itself was just SOOOOOO soothing and relaxing and never once did I feel like the pressure was too high... I would just tell her if the pressure was too much, and she'd immediately do less pressure. They use these warm oils with the bamboo sticks, and it just feels sooo good and so pampering!

So, I recommend the bamboo massage. Just communicate the level of pressure you want. I would totally get this massage again without a doubt. :)

Have fun!

I did the bamboo massage on the Wonder and was disappointed. I think my expectations were too high because I'd heard how 'wonderful' it was. Not worth the money. I'd like to try the Thai Poultice massage (because it's something I can't get at home...I can get a stone massage anytime) but I am not sure if it's going to be worth it either.

The Ionithermie treatment was amazing. I actually lost 8 inches (of water, of course, but still!)! That was cool!

I did some clay/much wrap things. So, so. Wouldn't pay for it again.

I want to try the scalp/shoulder massage people have raved about.
