Morning;

Has anyone every got the bamboo massage onboard? I am looking into getting this and want to make sure it is going to be a strong massage as I am a psychologist by profession and could use the tension release on muscles.

I go through a lot of stress with clients and also workouts and really need a good strong massage.....the Swedish massages were all taken!

The bamboo massage is suppose to be 75 minutes long but that is all I know about the massage!

Thanks!!!

It was really one of the best I have ever had. The motion of the rolling bamboo allows the therapist to go deep, but without too much pressure and no "after pain". Loved it! And I have tried all kinds of massages, all over the world.

Thank you for the information.

Do you think it would work and be beneficial to a guy though? I know women have a different idea of relieving tension versus what a guy does--not trying to be sexist in any way, shape or form but it's just that I have a lot of stress and knots on my back and legs from exercising and work functions.

I greatly do appreciate the information!!!

Oh sorry - didn't notice you were a guy :)

Yes, I do. It was one of the deepest massages I recall having. Although a girl, I always ask for the firmest pressure. I have a very stressful career and carry it all in my shoulders and neck. I found the bamboo really assisted the female therapist in getting enough pressure - without feeling beat up. Sometimes female therapists have a challenge getting enough pressure on the larger muscle area - back, legs, buttocks. I think the bamboo is helpful there.

My legs were really whipped from walking a lot the day before the massage and so I did really notice how much the massage helped in that area.

I agree. My back is pretty messed up, knot-wise. My family doctor recently touched it, and exclaimed "Oh my God!" Because, you know, that's exactly what you want your doctor to say after examining something.

I have to get massages every month, sometimes every two weeks, to manage it, although the knots never go away.

The bamboo massage was one of the best massages I've ever had. I would pay top dollar if someone in my area would offer it.

I had the bamboo massage on the Dream. I agree this is a very deep massage. I sat straight up when she rolled the bamboo over my calves. She had to ease her pressure. I didn't realize my calves were so tight. This is a great tension relieving massage.

I don't know why no one in my area does it - I too would pay top dollar! I usually feel a little battered and bruised after a normal massage because I need the pressure so firm. But the bamboo enables it to go to a while new level of deep without it hurting afterwards.

Omigosh! You must have wondered what you had gotten yourself into. I had no idea my calves were so bad either. Glad she was able to adjust the pressure for you :)

I agree, the Bamboo Massage is amazing and it will get rid of the knots in your back. They can do any pressure you want, too, and with the Bamboo sticks, they can get way deeper than when it's just a regular deep tissue massage.

I had a lower back injury on one Disney Cruise we went on, and because of this lower back injury, my upper back was in knots and I had a hard time even standing up totally straight (partly because of the injury, but a lot because the rest of my back was in knots due to the muscles in my back over-compensating for the lower back injury). I had a bamboo massage in the beginning of our cruise, and she DUG into my upper back (and my legs and feet, which also help release tension in your back), and when she was done, it was the first time since I had injured my lower back that I was able to stand up straight and she got rid of all the knots in my back!! I could not believe it. I went back at the end of our cruise (Panama Canal cruise, so it was a longer cruise) and had a 2nd Bamboo massage and when I went back (to the same person), she told me (even though more than a week had gone by), my back felt SO much loser and better than when I first came in initially, and I agree. The 2nd Bamboo Massage helped tremendously. When I got home, I had to go into my orthopedic doctor for a check-up and my doctor even commented on how my upper back was much loser and I was standing up much straighter.

So, yes... I think it would work well for you! Just tell them you like deep pressure.

Btw, I get massages pretty regularly here at home... I'm an athlete, and I deal with sore muscles often, and so I have to have really deep tissue massages. I can handle really deep pressure on my muscles during massages. Like I said, with the Bamboo Massage, they can do light pressure, medium pressure or deep pressure, and I told her to do deep pressure (except my lower back which was hurt at the time, and she did VERRRRY light pressure on my lower back), but she DUG into the rest of my muscles with the bamboo sticks (and there are different sizes of bamboo sticks, and each size of bamboo stick gives a different pressure, so that also gives them the ability to do a really deep tissue massage). So yes, I think this will be very good for a guy, too! Like I said, just communicate that you want deep pressure.

Also, one tip... Any time I've gotten a massage anywhere other than where I go regularly here at home, I always ask for the most experienced massage therapist to work on me. When I got the Bamboo Massage on the Disney ship I was on, I asked for most experienced Massage Therapist and the gals at the front desk completely honored that request... they just told me the times this particular person was available, and that is how I chose my massage (ie, I didn't go in saying I want a bamboo massage at 1 PM... I just asked when the most experienced person was available, so I could fit in that particular person's schedule). She not only was one of the most experienced, but she was a physical therapist as well (at her home country), so she had LOTS of knowledge and I could tell she was very experienced at massage. So, ask for the most experienced massage therapist when you make the appointment, and you likely will get someone who is really good! :thumbsup2

Thank you for everyone providing information on this type of massage.

Although I am a Clinical Psychologist I also officiate soccer matches all over so I am often very tight, sore, and in pain primarily on my back, calves, and hamstring muscles. I just wanted to make sure that this type of massage was going to be something that would really work for me and it looks like it might do the trick!!

I'm planning on having this done on the 4th night of our cruise so I can come back fresh for a 7 day tournament.

Thanks again for all the information!!!

I had one done in 2011 on the Magic. I have IT band friction syndrome and it makes my IT band very tight even though I work out almost every day. There was a point at which I actually felt the tightness suddenly give way during the massage. The only other time I've felt that was with my physiotherapist but it hurt when he did it because he had to dig so deep to loosen it. As others have said, you can get deep with the bamboo but it doesn't have that single pressure point that you get with just using your hands. And they are oiled and warm which helps even more

I love hot rock massages, but I love the bamboo even better. When I win big on the lottery I'm having someone installed in my house to give me a bamboo massage every single day ::yes::
