Baltimore Inner Harbor Lunch

I had some expiring credits with Southwest, so I am flying to Baltimore for the day on Monday. My plan is to do some geocaching around the Inner Harbor area. I will have about 4 hours for that and lunch.

Where should I go for lunch? I expect that I should have crab cakes. I will be alone, so a loud counter in a fish market is fine. Quality is more important than ambiance.

Thanks for any ideas.

Legal Seafood closed in Baltimore:guilty:

We were there in August and the sign was down and it was empty. ESPN Zone was closed down too. Not that you would want to eat there.

Rusty Scupper is by far one of our favorites. Ryleigh's is delish too!

There's a really good little unassuming restaurant inside the Baltimore Hilton, located right next to (literally) Camden Yards. It's called Diamond Tavern. We were recently there for a birthday celebration, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I had the crab cakes and they were great (NOT breaded just like a REAL Maryland crab cake should be... :thumbsup2 )

They had a good shrimp appetizer and good wings, also. With a really good chocolate waffle dessert.

Avoid Mo's and the Rusty Scupper, they are tourist traps. Catch a cab to Lexington Market and visit Faidleys Seafood. The area is a little sketchy but it's safe during lunch. It's ironic that the area around the Inner Harbor doesn't have any decent seafood places. If I ever win the lottery I plan on opening a restaurant that serves real Maryland seafood in the area. So many people think Phillips is what crabs are all about. They couldn't be more wrong! Keep us posted as to what you decide on.

FF,
Thanks for the info. Tourist traps are what I hope to avoid.

I was in Baltimore once with DW and we had our breakfasts at Lexington Mkt. It was an interesting place (even in the morning) and great for pastry, fruit, and coffee. My plan was to start my day in that area, so getting back there for lunch probably won't happen.

I do remember eating at the Cross Street Market......Nick's maybe?......a real seafood-in-the-rough, eat-at-the-counter (or picnic table). Are you familiar with it or somewhere similar in that neighborhood?

Yes, it used to be Nick's but he sold his business and opened a restaurant on the water off of Hanover Street. The raw bar is still there but I have never eaten a crabcake from there. My favorite restaurant in that area is Regi's. It's located on Light Street just around the corner frm Cross Street Market and a short walk from the Harbor. Here's a link:

Thanks again FF.

Regi's sounds good. I'll be taking the train to BWI from Camden or Hamburg and that put's me in a great location.

If I'm in Fells Point at eating time, I'll probably go to Max's or the Wharf Rat as I'm a bit of a beer geek.:thumbsup2

It's been awhile since I have been to Baltimore..but the last time we ended up in Fells Point, and I remember a great little restaurant we ate at ,but can't remember the name, maybe someone else can name some good spots there.
but I remember they had good beer and food:thumbsup2

I know this wasn't very helpful, but thought I would mention it anyway

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

We'll see where I end up.

I hope that it doesn't rain.

I reversed my original touring plan and went to Faidley's in Lexington Market for lunch. The lump crab cake ($13) was dreamy!:cloud9: That place is a hub of food activity and maze of choices complicated by competing aromas. Check it out if you want to be a traveler instead of a tourist.;)

Thanks for all of the guidance.:thumbsup2

Another former sort-of local here with a vote for the Rusty Scupper. :thumbsup2

We also loved the M&S Grill which is more in the middle of the action (and has great crab legs).
