We are thinking about a very quick trip to Baltimore. My MIL lives in Maryland and we are thinking about surprising her with a visit next week. Airfare has dropped from Buffalo to $29 each way so we can't beat the price to fly.

I've been in Baltimore once last year to see my DB before he was deployed to the Middle East. I just spent one night there and stayed at the Marriott Airport.

I've wanted to visit the Harbourfront but I am wondering what do you recommend as a must see or do in this area. Also, I'm looking for any suggestions on a nice place to stay. If we stay in the airport area, is there an easy way to get down to the waterfront?

Thanks!

I'm not a native, but I go there a lot! I love The National Aquarium, a dolphin just recently gave birth. I think that you can view the baby in the tank. They also are doing a new Australian exhibit, but I'm not sure if it's done yet.

The Science Museum is really awesome too. It has lots of Hubble pics and a planetarium. I saw the Titanic exhibit there too. I'm not sure if it's still there.

They have McCormick and Schmick (great fish), Phillips (seafood), ESPN and planet Hollywood, among a few great restaurants!

I love the Harbor! :cool1:

I would not recommend staying by the airport if you want to spend time in at the harbor. I grew up in Baltimore and my family still lives there, so I don't stay in hotels when I visit, but I know those right around the harbor (Stouffer's Harborplace come to mind) are nice.

Lots of stuff to do. Camden Yards is an amazing place if you like baseball (and even if you don't!). There is also a great children's museum, Port Discovery, especially great for younger kids. The harbor itself offers shopping, restaurants, and outdoor entertainment like paddle boats. Also in the harbor that is a must-see is the National Aquarium...it has daily dolphin shows and a really extensive aquarium. Kinda pricey but well worth it. The Baltimore Zoo is fun too, my kids greatly prefer the Baltimore Zoo over the National Zoo because its more hands on. Uhhh, lets see, what else, Fells Point is fun, a quaint neighborhood built in the 18th century that still has cobblestone streets and lots of quaint restaurants and shops, there is also a great art gallery there. If you come to Baltimore in the summer or early fall months, you have to try our hardshell crabs -- they may look a little gross, but trust me, they are delish! :) I'd recommend getting them at a place called Bo Brooks in Camden, another quaint section of Baltimore, that overlooks the harbor and is a fun place to sit and pick crabs and get a taste for what its like to live in Baltimore. If you like Italian food, go to my old neighborhood and the neighborhood my Granny still lives in, Little Italy. You won't be disappointed. Some other areas of interest: Babe Ruth's Museum, Fort McHenry, Federal Hill.

Let me know if I can answer anymore questions.
