Balloon centerpieces for my Daughter's Communion

Okay -- looking to save some money and do my own balloon centerpieces for my daughters communion next month.

I've searched and googled the net and found a few sites and/or videos with balloon ideas..

I don't want to use helium and have them attached to a weight at the table -- it's alot of work that day and esp to fit 4 dozen or so in my truck, just won't cut it ..

Anyone have any handy ideas of what to do? I'm sure there are LOTS of crafty's out there.. I am - but just can't find the right thing...

they sell balloon sticks.. about 18 inches long have a little cup to attach a balloon too, we use them at 4th of July and Halloween when we do cook outs for table decorations

If you don't want to use helium, then why use balloons? It seems like if they are lower they will block the table. I guess I am just not able to visualize it in my head, I am sure you have an idea of how you want it to look.

You can rent or buy a little helium tank at the party store and fill the balloons on site so you won't have to transport them. We used little foil bags of candy to weigh them down and tied em with ribbon. (jelly beans and the like, whatever was on sale)

What is the party theme? I would love to help you come up with some centerpiece ideas. Any color, character, or party theme? I think my communion we just did white and silver.

I am searching and can't find it but I saw adorable FLOWERS made with balloons-

Just 5 pink balloons with a yellow in the center. They were stuck onto a stick and used as centerpieces. It seemed simple.

You use like 4 balloons, tied together then another 4 on top of that - with a cross or her name, etc...

I have a link on my facebook page, let me get it for you and you'll see what I mean -- to order them are $50.00 per table - I'm having 9 tables.. that's not something I wanna spend $450.00 on.
I'm actually cutting crosses out of glittered cardstock now for the top of the centerpieces.

This is what I was going to suggest. You can order them from Oriental Trading, but party stores might carry them too. I'd probably display them by putting colored marbles (or maybe jelly beans... they're on sale everywhere this week!) in the bottom of a glass vase, then put the sticks in to arrange the balloons almost like a bouquet of flowers. Then you can just pull the balloons out to give to kids as a party favor when they leave.

Oh, now I get it! Those are cute! My DD makes her 1st Communion in 3 weeks too. I may have to try something like that.

I'm thinking you could use a dowel rod. I'm not sure how to make it stand upright. Maybe make a base out of a block of wood. Drill a hole in the top and insert the dowel? Wrap it in ribbon and attach the cross to the top. Then tie two balloons together and twist them around the dowel. Keep adding balloons until it looks full enough (looked like maybe 8 in the photos?).

I can kind of picture it in my head, but I'm not good at explaining it!

I actually did that with the dowels... I put ribbon on the dowels and then used my 'cricut' machine to cut out glittered crosses on cardstock.

I think they came out pretty good... I was then going to put the towels, like you said, in wood, or even styrofoam and glitter spray them.

Add balloons, which i bought in purple, silver and a blue-ish.... I have a balloon pump and i'll add them to the dowels, I think 8 or 12, tie them together and there we go!

The dowels were cheap, cardstock too, i've bought ribbon in the dollar store... and the balloons too - I'm looking for balloons with stars and stuff on them, but they are a tad more money..
I'll have to keep looking.

She's making her communion on 5/7... then we off cruising to Bermuda on the 22nd to celebrate ( my 20th anniversary too!), lucky girl is having a party too.

It looks REALLY easy. You tie 3 or 4 balloon stems together then twist the balloon "flower" around whatever column/pipe/stem you have for the center.

Those sound great! Post pics when you finish them! I was just going to do flower centerpieces, but I think my DD would love the ones you found. I may play around with your suggestions.

how are you going to do the bottom? I am looking on that site and I am guessing it's just a box covered with the foil paper fluffs?

Our party is going to be small. But I might be making one of these for the table.

Yes, I bought some metallic foil in the dollar store, it's hard to find here... but I managed to get some purplish color and bought some poof sticks, with wire and green stick to stick into the styrofoam.

Here are the crosses that I started, unsure of the purple, but I ran out of white glittered cardstock.

I'm trying to figure out how to attach a picture for you to see! hehe

Like I said, purple isn't that great, but might work with diff colored balloons and papers.

If you aren't using helium its going to take a lot of blowing up to get them inflated. I suppose that depending on what kind of centerpieces you are doing, you could tie the baloons onto a bamboo skewer or something similar and then stick it into a plant or something. But this will only work with small balloons, anything bigger is likely going to flop over if there's no helium.
