I can't remember the exact size, but I know you can fit at least 4 chairs around the table.I am sure Rich can be more exact. Rich where are you ????

But I would think twice about smoking on the balcony if it is a non-smoking buiding.:D

There has been discussion on this board previously about smoking on the balcony of a non-smoking unit.

Without rehashing those discussions I would just like to suggest to smokers that their non-smoking unit is in a non-smoking building. Others in that building have requested a non-smoking unit and have every right to expect a smoke-free environment while enjoying their balcony.

We will be at OKW while you are there...hopefully we can stay in the same building and not interfere with each other's enjoyment of our respective balconies.

Hope you have a wonderful vacation...

MS, CRO, anyone you ask says that smoking on the balcony of a non-smoking unit is OK.

i am sorry to ask that question, i did not know that you was not suppose to smoke on the balconies, i guess you could tell we are new dvc members and this is our first trip since purchasing. i guess i could call back and ask for smoking building and just not smoke in the room.
thank you, misty

You can smoke on balconys. MS has a funny habit of telling people what they want to hear. They will tell an ardent non-smoker that smoking is not permitted on the balconys of non-smoking buildings, they will tell a smoker that they can smoke on those balconys.

I don't know what it says in our contract or guidebook, but MS will tell you that you can smoke on the balcony. You can get an ashtray from a maid, the front desk will tell you that you can smoke on any balcony.

i do not want to upset or make anyone mad by doing that. do you really think that i want have a problem if we do smoke on the balcony, because i dont care to change my room request.
thanks, misty:confused:  :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I always stay in the OKW Grand Villa. There will never be anyone above you. You can even ask the front desk, you could call MS, you could call CRO, they will all tell you that you can smoke on the balcony.

CRO told me that the only smoking rooms at AKL Concierge were pool view. She told me to request non-smoking savanah view and just smoke on the balcony.

You will not have a problem.

We don't smoke in our house. We have a daughter and my wife hates the mess. We have been smoking on OKW GV balconys since '93 for twelve nights every year. Many of the units we have been in were non-smoking. We never smoke in the units, we always smoke on the balcony.

At BWV, VWL and BCV smoking optional rooms are concentrated on one floor of the resort. Guests in those rooms may smoke in their room and on their balcony. The balcony may be above, below and in some cases, next to a non-smoking room's balcony. I would hope no one is suggesting that a smoker wouldn't be allowed to smoke on their balcony when they do have a smoking optional room.

At OKW, each building is designated as all smoking or smoking optional. Guests in non-smoking rooms are asked to go outside if they must smoke rather than do so in a non-smoking room. Some will leave the room and smoke on the sidewalk area, or stairway landings- some will choose to smoke outside on their balcony.

As has been mentioned above, a call to the desk will verify the status of smoking at a resort. As long as it's done outside a room, it is permitted- whether the resort is OKW, BWV, VWL or BCV. The same is true at HH and VB.

While I always request non-smoking rooms and will likely suffer thorough a coughing attack if subjected to cigarette smoke, I would rather smoking be done on the balcony below me than in the non-smoking room I'll be checking into on my next trip.

Even though MS might tell smokers that smoking is permited on the balcony, they tell other people (and not just "ardent non-smokers") that smoking is not permitted on the balconies of non-smoking buildings.
There are plenty of other places to smoke besides on the balcony of a non-smoking building. If you need to smoke around the building, at least smoke in the front of the building. That allows people who have chosen a non-smoking building to sit on their balcony without having to breathe it in.

And, if you are a smoker in a non-smoking room, I agree with Doc,
While I always request non-smoking rooms and will likely suffer thorough a coughing attack if subjected to cigarette smoke, I would rather smoking be done on the balcony below me than in the non-smoking room I'll be checking into on my next trip.

As a non-smoker from a family of non-smokers, on a recent visit to our resort, OKW, we had requested a non-smoking room, the room was great! However, the people below us insisted on smoking like chimneys, including cigar smoke throughout most hours of our stay. What a great vacation not being able to go out and enjoy our balcony, I thought it was extremely selfish of them to be smoking, even though it was outdoors, in a non-smoking unit thus keeping me and my family fairly contained inside our unit, esp. when they could have requested to be in a smoking unit and wouldn't have offended anyone out on their decks in that unit as everyone those units know what they are getting into!

Rich,

CRO told me that the only smoking rooms at AKL Concierge were pool view. She told me to request non-smoking savanah view and just smoke on the balcony.

You will find a very LARGE no smoking sign on your balcony at AKL room balconies. This one place where smoking on the balcony is not allowed at all. It is for very obvious reasons, but, in case the obvious is not obvious for some, it is to protect the animals from fire in case some moron ( not anyone here ) drops a lit butt from the balcony and causes the plants to catch fire. They are quite strident about this one.

Yes, according to the front desk at OKW, you are allowed to smoke on a non-smoking room balconly. Some agree with this, others do not, but according to management, it is allowed. I don't mind if a smoker stands on a non-smoking room balcony and has an occasional cigarette, but I would hate to be near a room that has SIX smokers standing on a balcony smoking. I will be cheking into a non-smoking OKW GV shortly after you will be checking out, and I certainly hope I don't get the unit you will be vacating. I am sure some of that smoke will make its way back into the unit. Like I said, you have the right to stay in that room and smoke on the balcony, but personally, if I had SIX smokers in my party, I would not be staying in a non-smoking room.

Let's not forget....you can request a smoking room and not get it....you can request a non-smoking room and not get it. Its all in the way the chips fall.

Personally, I think if a smoker uses the balcony in a non-smoking room, they're probably mature enough to accomodate polite requests from their non-smoking neighbors. Maybe this is just a symptom of our lawyer infested country, but it does seem that alot of people have problems with trying to amicably resolve their own issues.

(blowing his own smoke)

I am a non-smoker with asthma and my wife is a smoker. We always get a non-smoking and my wife smokes on the balcony. during the course of the whole day that amounts to about 5 cigarettes she smokes out there. Just think of the probablity of the wind just blowing just rught to carry the smoke directly to a balcony near by, I would say that alone have to be about the smae odds as winning the lottery. Then you add to that factor that someone would have to be standing out on that balcony and you have odds that are beyond the lottery to be hit with any smoke. One thing I would not want to see is anyone smoking in a non-smoking room. My wife and I have been married for nearly 30 years and she never has smoked inside our house or any hotel room for that matter.

I think it would be more considerate to smoke on the front door porch or stairway of your non-smoking unit. Last year we had a guy next door who did that (he had a studio, we were in the lockoff 1 bedroom), we didn't mind it because once we were in the room we could not smell it, it just took a couple seconds to pass him on the way in.

When we were in OKW last January, we had a nonsmoking building (requested smoking) anyway, we smoked on the patio, but were yelled at by housekeeping for doing so.....

Of course now that I am preggo..... no more smoking for me.

hi, i am going to call monday and switch to smoking , because i dont take to kindly to being screamed at. it is not like we will be out there 24/7 puffing away.
