Balcony chairs and tables at Hoop?

We've been a few times, but always on the floor. Now that my kids are considered "adults" I'm thinking about booking cat 3. I can't recall what the tables and chairs looked like upstairs? I read the chairs are swivel, but is it a regular table with some sitting opposite the balcony? It seems those would have a really hard time seeing since they'd be sitting further back? I would think those up against the railing would be fine. OR is it a long skinny table and the whole family would sit against the railing? Anyone got pics? Thanks!

I've only been up there once, and we were a party of 4. Our table was next to the balcony rail, and I do not recall any tables behind us.

I meant was your table skinny and long like a bar? (so that all four of you were sitting against the railing) Or was it like a traditional table? Thank you!

I think from the pictures I've seen they are the traditional tables. I've read some posts from people who say they did not mind sitting up there at all. I definitely understand the cost saving aspect of choosing cat 3!

Last December, we decided to give the Category 3 balcony a try. Worked perfectly for us, and we'll probably sit there again next time we go. The views were great, and I especially enjoyed watching all the interactions between the singers and diners as the singers roamed around. And you can see that they even come up to the balcony to sing!

We sat next to the railing, and no one sat on the opposite side of our table. There was another family sitting down from us, and they were also only sitting on the railing side.

The floor was packed, but you may notice from the picture that several tables in front of us were not being used.

Well, I don't know why the sizes are different - they show the same size on Photobucket. But I think you get the idea.

Hope this helps!

Hi Shan!
I think I can help. We have done the Hoop many times, always at tier 3. The tables along the sides are long skinny tables. Each person sits in a swivel chair along the railing. The tables at the back are traditional tables. A little harder to see from but I don't recall it being a huge problem. My preference is to sit on the sides in the swivel chairs. So much fun! Have a great time!

Thanks everyone!

Candi, what do you mean by the tables in the back? You mean the center balcony? Those are tier 2, right? So as long as we book tier 3 we should all get a swivel chair against the railing?

Oops...you are right. I did mean the center of the balcony but those are tier 2. Tier 3 would be the swivel chairs against the railing.

Tier 2 tables that are upstairs are along the back and are regular tables. Not everybody is right up to the railing.

Tier 3 tables run along the sides. They only have chairs on the side of the tables by the railing and the chairs are tall swivel chairs. Only the waiter comes up to the table from the other side. They are long narrow tables.

If I booked really early (shortly after the 180 day mark) I'd consider tier 2 because then we'd be more likely to sit downstairs. If I think there's a chance I might be upstairs I think I'd rather be tier 3.

We sat in Tier 3 and were all the way at the end of our table. Our view was a bit obstructed - some things happened upstage which we couldn't see at all. We agreed that if we ever do HDDR again, we'll pay the extra for Tier 1 or 2.

You can see the Tier 3 chairs against the railing:

We have sat in all tiers a couple of times and we find that we like Cat. 3 the best. The show still makes its way up stairs, so you wont miss out on that. You don't have to worry about anyone really sitting in your way or on top of your party that it can be sort of uncomfortable. We usually go with the late show (9:30) and when we went this past May, the show was maybe less than half booked and we ended up sitting on the floor anyway.

Do these chairs with the backs to the rail swivel all the way around?

Thanks everyone! So are these swivel chairs on both sides of the railing? I read another thread where someone said they were only on the left side???

I think I'll book 180 days out at tier 3 and take my chances. This next year is gonna hit hard with both of mine now adults in Disney's eyes. More for APs, MNSSHP, character breakfasts - UGH! And my youngest never eats when we go! :headache:
