I'm new here...Hello everyone!

I just need to know if any of the moderate resorts have private balconies? My husband is a smoker and I would rather that he be able to smoke on the balcony of a non-smoking room than inside a smoking room. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earboy2:

You cannot smoke on the balconcy of a non-smoking room. The resort will receive complaints from guests on either side of you who have paid for a non-smoking room. Who can blame them. Book a smoking-room and live with it.

No, they don't have private balcony's. As an asthmatic, I would be more than a bit upset if I was on my balcony in a n/s room and a smoker came out of the next room and lit up. I book a n/s room and take the time to get it guaranteed with special services for my health. Having a smoker next door on the balcony defeats the purpose.

As a newcomer, Brooksmommy, I just want to say hi and welcome!! It was awfully nice of you to ask about the smoking thing and it shows that you are trying to take everyone into consideration, so thanks for that!! I am sure you and DH will manage. Smoking is a tough thing to sort out these days isn't it!!

Yes, you are allowed to smoke on the balcony of a non-smoking room. Anyone that complains about anything will be offered a different room.

No balconies at moderates except the one outside the door. Good luck.

Which I think is totally wrong. Smokers who only smoke outdoors are such hypocrites! It's OK to pollute the air others have to breathe, but not their own living quarters??

The person creating the offensive or unhealthy situation is the one who should be required to move...

According to you. That is not the way it works there though. Whomever is complaining will have the option of moving.

I suppose the idea behind it is that if someone truly finds something "offensive" they will move. If they don't want to move than perhaps the "offense" isn't that bad after all.

I am assuming that fortunately things have worked out for you and your vacations thus far. :goodvibes

Yes, I've had someone smoking on a balcony next to me. I told them I had asthma, which is why I was in a non-smoking room, and nicely suggested they find a more suitable place to smoke. They did.

I suppose grabbing a fire extinguisher to put out the fire on the next balcony might work as well if they didn't...

I saw some people out on the porch area of the AB building smoking - that is probably your best bid. I think it on somone picture that post here????

Do you also ask people not to wear perfume on the balconies that they paid for? :confused3

I almost kind of want to dare you to spray someone. I wonder who would be moving after that! LOLOLOL

Tooo funny. Like I said, I am glad thus far things seem to have worked out for you.

Even perfumes that bother me don't bother me from that distance. BUt smoke does.

I was joking about the fire extinguisher... although it is an interesting thought.

So perfumes that you are allergic to don't bother you when they come from the balcony next to yours, but smoke coming from the exact same place does? Isn't an allergy an allergy? Not how much really, but any at all? I was always under the impression that any amount of something that a person is allergic to is bad.

I find that alot of people are allergic to something when they don't like it. I am not accusing you of it, just throwing reality out there.

If I were having a cocktail and a cigarette while on vacation on the balcony I paid for and someone in another room came out and asked that I leave, no matter how nicely, I wouldn't like it one bit. I think I would tell them as nicely as I could that they are more than welcome to the balcony they paid for anytime they want and if they don't want to be out there when I am smoking or having a cocktail or wearing perfume, or cursing or farting or any other habit I may or may not have, then they are quite welcome to turn around and go back in their room where do they control the air and wait for me to finish.

Again, I am very glad that things seem to work out for the best for everyone and I hope your luck continues. :goodvibes

As for the original question by the OP: Nope, no balconies at moderates but there are covered walkways in front of the doors that I have seen people smoke on.

You maybe misunderstood. I have asthma. Medically documented. I take two medications daily for it, and use a rescue inhaler. Or is that not enough for you? Smoke can trigger an asthmatic reaction in me. Perfume can trigger an allergic reaction in me. Asthma and allergies are two very different things. I could DIE from an asthmatic attack. In my case some (NOT ALL) fragrances can cause my sinuses to fill. This is not deadly to me. Big difference.

I find that alot of people are allergic to something when they don't like it. I am not accusing you of it, just throwing reality out there.

I agree. If someone is wearing too much perfume I might say something loudly like "Man it stinks out here, someone's been bathing in perfume." But because they are unpleasant to be near doesn't mean they are affecting my health. Yes, it would be tacky of me to say so, but it's equally tacky for someone to wear that much fragrance--YUCK!

Then why not book a smoking room? Then you wouldn't have the problem. Smoking in a non-smoking area is just rude IMHO, particularly if someone tells you they have a medical condition that you are affecting in an adverse way. BTW--I wouldn't ask you to leave, just to not smoke on your balcony while I was on mine. Sorry, but my right to health trumps your right to smoke. Carry on with the cocktail if you'd like!

I will preface my remarks with the following statement: I am not a smoker. Never have been a smoker.
I am a nurse. Have cared for many respiratory patients in my 22 years.

I would think that someone with asthma so sensitive that smoke from a balcony next door in a hotel can cause a potentially fatal reaction probably shouldn't be wandering around WDW.

If you need a rescue inhaler because someone on a hotel balcony outside 10-15 feet from you is smoking, then your disease is not being properly managed. There are many oral medications now that dramatically decerease the need for rescue inhalers. If you are taking two oral medications and still require rescue inhalers for cigarette smoke from another balcony outside, then discuss with your doctor changing your regime, because it's really ineffective for your level of disease.

And quite frankly, no right of yours trumps any right of mine, healthor otherwise. That's the problem when you start bringing up those "rights"...yours are not more important, despite what you may think.
