We are looking to stay in the garden wing and really want a balcony/patio. Kids go to bed by 8 pm, so we would like to be able to sit outside and relax. Do all of the garden wing rooms have balconies? Or would we have to request something?
Thanks in advance

I've stayed @ CR many times! My fave resort.

None of the wing rooms have a balcony. Only the tower rooms. However if you request a 1st floor room you get a patio, but only on the 1st/ground floor level of the wing.

And... the patios aren't private. You share with the room next to you. Still... they are nice though.

Thanks,

We are really trying to plan our resort around having a balcony. Last year we were stuck in our small Pop room by 8 pm, trying to drink our frozen drinks quietly in the dark so our 1 & 5 y/o could go to sleep:rotfl2: Lots of fun!
We also can not afford to spend a ton of money on our resort. We are going in March and praying for some kind of discount. The contemporary looked good since we could walk to MK.

Have you thought about Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge? They should be comparable in price to CR garden wing, and you will have a balcony. :)

There really isn't alot of room on any of those balconies. The best balconies are at OKW. The resort is very relaxing. Unfortunatley you wouldn't have the proximity to the MK. The kids might like the pool with the sandcastle slide though and the boat ride to DTD is nice. A studio would be comparible in price or you could rent from a dvc member and get a 1 bdrm.

Only the Contemporary Tower rooms come with a balcony and there are none located on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Garden Wing building and as it was already mentioned the 1st floor Garden Wing rooms come with a patio.

I would stay at WL. We love CR, but I think WL is much better for young families. (In my experience.) All rooms have a balcony/patio. WL has a nice playground on the beach & a kiddie pool. CR has no playground or kiddie pool, only a sprinkler play area. The rooms are bigger at CR, but I find the WL rooms nicely layed out and just fine. You can walk to MK from CR. WL has a boat, you can push a stroller on, no folding. Also, WL is all under 1 roof, making it much easier to get around if it's raining. If you stay in a CR wing, you'll have to walk outside to get to the main building for the food court, etc.

Actually the walkway from the Contemporary Garden Wing to the Tower is under a covered walkway so there is no chance of getting wet if it's raining.

Have you thought about staying off site? You can get a large villa with a balcony/patio at resorts close by for MUCH cheaper (even than Pop sometimes)!

Just a thought. :goodvibes

What I noticed about the first floor rooms in the wing is that everyone had their drapes closed! Anyone walking by would be able to see directly into your room..not sure if that would be a trade off for a patio. I would prefer some sunlight.

Is it? That's good. It wasn't when we stayed there. I'd get wet running back & forth.
Maybe you stayed in the old North Garden Wing which was demolished to make room for Bay Lake Tower, because I know their other Garden Wing building has a covered walkway.

One thing to consider about balconies that you may not have thought of: (although this may not be an issue for you, like it is for me.)

Every time we've had a balcony (at any hotel) I've been pretty much unable to enjoy it because of cigarette smoke from neighboring balconies. People tend to step outside to smoke, which is very considerate but with my severe asthma and allergies, it becomes a deal breaker for me when it wafts over to my balcony.

I know most people aren't bothered by smoke if it's not right in their faces, but just in case this was an issue for you, I wanted to mention it. For me, it would not be worth the hassle of switching my plans to get a balcony. It's not any fun for me. :(

I love having a balcony at CR, but we stay in the tower. It is very relaxing to go out there with a book and read. It is also nice to just take in the view of the castle and the fireworks with some "adult beverages" and snacks!

I have never had a problem with cigarette smoke nearby, but maybe I have always been lucky. :confused3

Smoking on the WDW resort balconies is not allowed. Guests are only allowed to smoke in smoking areas.

Thanks everyone. I did not realize that all the rooms at WL and AKL had balconies. That is something to consider. I also did not think about the smoke issue. We do not do well with smoke, so hopefully people wont be smoking on the balconies. Great input and thoughts. They are most appreciated!

If there happen to be guests smoking on the balconies next to your room then you should report them to the front desk, because I believe the fine is $250.

Have you thought about staying at the Fort Wilderness Cabins? The bedroom has a double bed & a bunk bed & the living room has a Murphy bed. There is also a nice deck. You could put your kids to bed & sit in the living room or out on your deck. You can take the boat to MK, which is very enjoyable. There are two pools on property and a playground.

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want to be as close as possible to MK then you want to go with WL/VWL or CR?BLT. If you are looking for a large balconey where you have a table to then I would go with OKW. The largest villas are also at OKW and will give you the most leg room. They are in the DTD and EPCIT area. BWV are probably the next largest as for villa size but the balconies can be tiny. As I said it all depends of what is most important to you.
