Balconies at the Contemporary?

salc,
I think mickey&minniealways has the right idea...it's really about which issue is more important. Last year my wife and I walked with our 3 kids (6, 4, & 2) to the MK from CR. We tested for ourselves, just how long the walk to MK was and it was great. It was a maximum of 10 minutes. We also took 2 strollers, which were a huge help.
For me, personally, I think I like proximity over a balcony.
Another balcony type option is Port Orleans-FQ, which doesn't exactly have a balcony, but has space outside the door for 2 parents to hang out while the little ones start to got to sleep. And you could send one parent to the food court for beignets for dessert :).
You really should actually be able to get a decent discount of between 25-35% if you just keep watching the boards for the discount info.

The best views at the Contemporary are found in the first floor Garden View rooms facing Bay Lake. It's so wonderful to sit on the patio watching the boat traffic on Bay Lake, or the loons calling to each other in the early morning fog.

We had a garden view first floor room in the North Wing before it was demolished. The small patio was lovely and our view was very pretty. Unfortunately, we found we could not sit out on the patio in the evenings. We were getting bitten alive by some kind of bug -- not mosquitos but like mosquitos. I've heard them called "no seeums". So, the patio was useless to us in the evenings.
