I need some help with dinner.

Has anyone ever baked potatoes on a Weber gas grill? It is too hot to heat up the oven and I am doing fish on the grill--another first.

Any help will be appreciated.

My husband makes some great grilled potatoes! But they are not a tradition 'baked potato"

He slices up up bunch of potatoes. Takes a sheet of aluminum foil and sprays it with Pam (garlic Pam is great!) Puts the potatoes on the foil. Seasons them (probably with onion, garlic, salt? & pepper) folds up the foil & throws it on the grill.

Sorry I don't know how long & he's not here to ask.

Thanks Ennazus. I do them a similar way but wanted to try a whole potato. I Googled it and it looks like that would take 1 1/2 - 2 hours for a whole potato.

Hi Carol! :)

You can just wrap them tight in tinfoil; poke a couple holes in them through the foil; put them on the upper shelf of the grill or off to the side. . .

They'll take about an hour.. and every 15 minutes or so you'll want to crawl through the window and turn them. . ;)

:teeth:

Good luck. . and you can nuke them a few minutes first (minus tinfoil of course) to speed things up if necessary. . :)

It'll be easy for Carol;) She's had a lot of practice;) :p

Oh yeah Dan. . the diference between a good baked potato, and a great baked potato. . . :teeth:

Of course if Marla were there with the Margarita mix, they wouldn't need the potatos at all! ;)

I make potatoes like this all the time, last night even! Just wrap it in foil, poke holes and grill. It will take 45-60 minutes, depends on how big the potatoes are. It took about 45 minutes last night on our Weber gas grill. Good luck!

Nice to see you Willy. and thanks everyone for your help.

I nuked them first then put them on the grill. And for your information, I used the door and they were fine.

I make baked potatoes on my Weber Grill all the time and they are delicious! I am actually copying the "recipe" directly from my
"Barbecue: The Weber Tradition" cookbook that we got with our grill some 17 years ago! And yes, we still have the same grill and it still works like a charm.

BAKED POTATOES

Medium White Baking Potatoes*
Butter or Margarine
Sour Cream with chives (optional)
Salt and Pepper

Scrub potatoes, dry and rub with butter or margarine. Wrap each potato in aluminum foil, place on Cooking Grid and cook (MOM). Potatoes will cook in 45 to 60 minutes depending on their size. Test for doneness by piercing with a fork or squeezing with fingers protected by gloves. If you prefer crisp skins, unwrap potatoes during last 10 minutes of cooking time.

To serve, fold foil back, make a crisscross cut in top of each potato, squeeze gently to fluff up center. Top with butter or sour cream with chives. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

1 potato per serving.

*Sweet potatoes or yams can be substituted for white potatoes. Omit sour cream with chives.

I just LOVE my Weber grill. I cooked a rotisserie chicken on it tonight. I once even cooked a duck on it!

when ya slice the potato put onion slices in between- really good

I rub the potatoes with a tiny bit of olive oil and rock salt and pepper and place them directly on the rack on our Weber gas grill (well dh does that he's the bbq chef here). We cook them about 45 minutes to an hour. The skins are soo good this way and the insides are still light and fluffy.

We rub the skins with olive oil, wrap them in tin foil and put them on the top rack of the grill.

They come out beautifully, with nice soft skins.
