Does anyone have any "tried and true" recipes for bake sale items? It seems that my children have lots of those to raise funds for sports and school events - and I'm hoping to find some awesome new recipes.

I the past I have made pretzel turtles (these didn't go over well), cupcakes - red velvet, shattered glass (these were cool but a lot of work), chocolate chip cookie dough cupcakes (these were tricky - if baked even a minute too long, the cookie part in the middle bakes instead of staying doughy), Neiman Marcus chocolate chip cookies (delish!), and my old standby for the Fall = candied apples.

Any favorite bake sale recipe will do - as long as it is tasty and doesn't require Martha Stewart to bake it.

TY

I take rocky road brownies to my dd11's cheerleading bake sale and they usually sell really quickly.
It is just brownies topped with mini marshmellows, mini choc. chips and chopped walnuts. Put the toppings on at the end of the baking time and put it back in the oven for a few min. to melt.

Rice kirispie treats are always a big hit at all our bake sales.
Its the only thing I make now, they are so easy and the kids love them.
I don't get fancy with them, I just decorate them with cookie icing to make them less plain.

A friend of mine bakes brownies, then melts Andes Candies on top. She makes mint for my birthday. After the candy is melted maybe you could refrigerate them before you wrap them. It could be messy though.
Another favorite (we do it for parties) is pretzel logs, dipped in frosting halfway up, then rolled in sprinkles.

I know at DDs school, puppy chow is a huge hit! I think sometimes they even have to ration it so each lunch period has a chance to get some.

Dip pretzel rods in melted white chocolate and sprinkle "sprinkles" on them. They sell fast!:cool1:

I am the queen of bake sales having been through them with 4 children in various activities. During peak swim season I normally have to make something just about every night! Over the years I've found the simpliest things, brownies, homemade rice krispy treats (try adding a splash of vanillla) and chocolate chip cookies sell the best and are super easy and quick. Depending on the ages of who will be there and time of day I have actually found good old pb&j (or other) sandwiches made cute with a cookie cutter for the bread sell well and are a nice alternative if the mom doesn't want the kids to fill up on junk, especially great if the bake sale is at a normal eating time or at a sports activity where the kids are HUNGRY. Oh and I bring a bowl of apples or bananas I can use at home if it doesn't sell.

We do these and they are easy to make and a big hit. We use various dips (milk, chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, mint chocolate, etc.) and various sprinkles each time.

Genius! You could probably do like WDW and use mini m&ms, marshmallows and chocolate chips, sprinkles of all kinds -- could get fun!

I know it sounds kind of funny, but chocolate dipped strawberries always sell out fast at our bake sales. I'll make a ton of them, put them in cupcake wrappers and sell them individually. Cheap and delicious.

Single Serve:
Carrot Cake cupcakes!
Chocolate dipped pretzels
Rice Crispie treats sprinkled with mini M&Ms
Cookies - familiar ones go the fasted (Chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar cookies)
Brownies cooked in cupcake tins - 2 to a pack, with or without decoration
slices of cake - chocolate, carrot, red velvet seem the be the favorites

Larger amounts-
Banana Bread
Pumpkin Bread
An assortment of breakfast muffins (we usually try to stay away from berries, just because it's so warm around here and don't want things to go bad)

I like the idea of having a bowl of fruit available! This would be a great idea, depending on the venue.

One last thing - presentation is everything. We have found if we use clear food-grade cellophane bags, purchase in bulk, and tie items up with one strand of curly ribbon, it sells so much faster than things in a ziploc. (Personally, give me the ziploc so I can reseal it, but they usually sell last.)

Many thanks for the great suggestions :thumbsup2

I've done the chocolate-covered strawberries also - but mostly in the spring and summer months since that is when I can get the best/most ripe strawberries around my neck of the woods. The candied apples always sell out first as I make the kind that is sold at carnivals and fairs, with the hard red coating - but they are simply too much work to sell for $1 once they are done.

I'm definitely going to use the pretzel rod idea and make those. I'd never eat one since I'm not a fan of salty and sweet all-in-one, but they seem easy to make and I know Wilton sells wrappers to go over the pretzel rods - so they will make a nice presentation once done.

Also the rocky-road brownie and rice-crispy treats are great ideas that I'll make. I'm thrilled for some great ideas here so at least I can mix it up.

TYSM Disers !

One of our big bake sale sellers was the rice krispie treats, except they were made with fruity pebbles cereal. Very colorful and the kids loved them.

Also agreeing with the pretzels. Huge sellers too.

Rice crispy treats are relatively easy and cheap to make. Plus you can always decorate them or put thinks like chocolate chips in the mix. We've even made them out of Luck Charms cereal (be careful with the marshmallow amount though or they can get way sweet and try to do it so the marshmallows in the cereal don't melt). You can mix different types of cereal together to make them; my college likes to use our stale breakfast cereal to make desserts for us, sometimes they use up to 3 different types of cereal.

Also you can use unsalted popcorn (think air popper) and make popcorn marshmallow treats. Make them like you would rice crispy's but they you can put pretzels and m&m in it. Cute and different.

Puppy chow was a hit when I was in high school. They sold it for like 50 cent a bag (think sandwich bag) and a basket of it pretty much sold out before they had went to 10 classes.

I hope your bake sales are a success!

How about "cookies on a stick"? Just drop the chocolate chip cookie dough on a baking sheet and stick in a sucker stick (before baking). When cool, wrap up in plastic with a little ribbon...so cute and easy!

Whoope pies sell well here in new england. i also do pretzel rods dipped in melted caramel chips then dipped in white chicolate(leaving a bit of the caramel showing) and rolled in crushed Heath bar bits. These are to die for a and ingredients can all be bought at wallyworld.
