bailout/stimulus package

I was just wondering why we didn't have one of these threads yet. (:

Well, okay. Firstly, if I here the word 'pork' one more time I swear I'm going to slap someone.

So I've read some of what was cut, and I'm surprised that the funding for the state is no longer in it. My mom actually works at the welfare office & they were going to use that money to hire more people.

It is filled with a lot of extra seemingly insignificant stuff (will not say the word pork. ugh.) but I believe it will help eventually.

Recovering this economy is going to take a lot of time & patience.

well...history certainly doesn't repeat itself. but i'm positive that it always rhymes.

the new deal worked...for awhile. it solved the immediate problems. but...given sixty or so years, it turned back down. thats simple economics. for there to be good times, there must also be bad times.

call me heartless, but i don't think that sending out millions of stimulus checks will stimulate our economy at all. printing money and throwing it into the streets doesn't do anything except lower the already pitiful value of the american dollar.

who is paying for this? we're already almost 10 trillion dollars in debt. i just want to know how much our grandchildren are going to be paying for the previous generation's mistakes...

Can I just say I'm tired of all this stimulus junk. I know whining about it won't make it go away, and it's a HUGE deal, but...

I have very mixed feelings about this.

The educated person in me knows that this will eventually probably lead to even more financial problems within the country.

But the idealistic person in my jst wants to believe that people will finally get the hint that we're in trouble and stop asking for help they don't really need.

BTW- I'm totally against bailing out Chrysler...again.

I don't think it will work. Ohio got $138 billion I believe. I want to know where all that money came from to form a 787 billion dollar plan. Did you see what happened to the stocks the day he signed the plan?? The futures for the next day were down by 250 points by 6 o'clock that evening. I really think that it is just going to drive our country into a bigger hole.

I am so tired of that. It's ridiculous that they keep asking for more damn money. :sad2:

Anyway, again, the hopeful person in me says it will work.

Eh, mixed feelings.

I hope it worked, because we just dumped so much money into it.

But really, instead, when we all become taxpayers, we're going to be paying for it. I just don't see the sense in what exactly this is doing.

This plan wont work, its not fair to bailout every person that tried to cheat the system to buy a house when they cant afford one. If you cant afford a freaking house, rent one! (yes i know this is a little part of the plan, but it pisses me off the most)

I don't think we should have it. We have to pay for 10% of the population who have problems with their houses being foreclosed on. The rest of us (90%) paid our bills and were responsible and lived within our means. If you can't afford your house you can't afford it. You move into something you can afford. I do realize that some people just recently lost their jobs and the banks should work with them...but the people who just lived beyond their means because they had to have a flat screen tv and the newest car I don't feel bad for.

I'm peeved that the auto industry got themselves into this mess but if they fail it's going to hurt everyone. The government needs to regulate these things before they get worse. Why on earth didn't they put stipulations on the banks that took OUR money. They took our money then gave out bonuses. :sad2:

well, i think obama is one of the best rpesidents. yeah, there is a hole lot of nuthin that money is going to, but there is still alot of stuff it is going to. also, no other president got a bill passed through congress this fast

lol everyone who opposes it: what other alternatives do you suggest to stimulate the economy? tax cuts only work temporarily and are part of what got us in this mess in the first place.....

I don't see how you can say Obama is one of the best presidents. He's been in for a month. I say we give him a little while more to make that statement.

And honestly, just because we passed a bill fast doesn't mean its good. I'd rather have a bill take more time and it be better, than it pass through quick and include "pork" like an atv track or re-sodding the national mall.

some of the "pork" that's on there is because you need to give people an incentive to pass a bill. And since the job of a Senator or a Representative is to help the people of their state, tossing a few million onto the bill for a certain state gives them incentive to vote for it and pass a bill.

So really, it's the people's fault we're in this mess because we're so dang selfish. If we'd just forget about ourselves (and our states) and focus on passing a bill with no "pork" that would help the entire nation, we'd be better off.

So, yeah. I'm a little techy on this subject. Sorry if my post comes off as offensive.

No, it's not really our faults. The government sent the country into the great depression by thinking that last time and using the laissez faire approach thinking the economy was self correcting. This recession and soon depression is the fault of many things such as Bush's tax cuts, banks giving out ridiculous loans, etc.

Sorry, but a lot of it has to do with the public as well. Banks shouldn't have been giving loans to unqualified people, people spent beyond their means...it all contributed to this.

The economy goes in cycles. Any basic economics course will teach you that. Yea, it sucks right now but it will go back up eventually. We don't know when eventually will be but *typically*

Correct me if im wrong, but wasnt the Clinton party responsible for all the Banks giving out loans? Wasn't he the one that said that every person should own a house?
