What do you do in the Bahamas? I'm not looking for port adventures. I would like to know where should I take my family to see the important/beautiful local sites. I don't have an interest in being off the boat all day, but would like for all of us to see something.

I'd be interested as well.

:lmao: This isnt the first time i've heard this about Nassau. Is it that bad?

Bad probably isn't the right word. Rundown. Seedy. Doesn't have the same warm friendly vibe a lot of other ports do. Unless I had an excursion booked not sure I would get off. But then I have been there 4x since Aug. 2010.

We got off the ship and got right back on!! We did midship detective and aqua duck!! Perfectly fun day!

If you seriously don't want to plan any tours, Nassau doesn't have much to offer. You can walk to Junkanoo beach I think (that's where my friends went) and to the straw market if you have the guts for seemingly safe but high pressure souvenirs. (I will definitely be going back!)

But we loved Blue Lagoon so much, we planned Nassau and want to go back in May as a family. Because they coordinate the ferry picking you right up at the ship pier, we prefer to book a tour that includes all the transport etc.

Nassau has great beaches but they just aren't super close to the ship (unlike Castaway which is a gimme!) If you really want a nice beach, I'd reconsidering not booking anything.

My husband and I got off and shopped a bit, my kids (older) stayed on and enjoyed the aquaduck without lines. I would recommend staying on, better things to do on the ship with less people

I've always been curious about the resort Atlantis. Is it not worth it to go there? Is it too far from the port? Curious because am planning future cruise may be with Dream. Thanks!

I would love to visit Atlantis on a separte vacation someday, but I'm not sure I would go as part of a cruise. I understand that it is a very large resort, and I would think visiting for a part of a day, I would feel rushed. Plus, there are other fun things to do in Nassau, and/or activities on the ship.

One nice thing about Nassau, is that getting on and off the ship at port is very easy. If you want to get off for a short period for a look around, you don't have to commit a lot of time to do that. As opposed to a tendering port, like Grand Cayman, where exiting the ship is more of an ordeal.

We enjoyed Atlantis aqua adventure and felt there was plenty of time to do everything. It is very beautiful. I actually would not want to stay there more than a day though. I would get bored after more than two days. Blue lagoon I would recommend for the animal encounters.

Straw market was fun, so hot and humid you can almost sweat out the extra pounds you gained on the cruise. We bought beach towels for half of what we would have spent at CC. Mind you they were about half the thickness and were not expecting them to last long.
We went to Senor Frogs, probably won't go again but there's a Hard Rock cafe nearby.
Tortuga rum cakes and also the Del Sol store are on our list to go back to.
We were harassed by a few locals trying to sell us drugs but they eventually go away

We loved it! We went in October, and had a blast! Just a quick jaunt on a taxi (about $20 each way including tip) or DCL bus, and you're there! There is PLENTY to do in a day! We got there at 9:30, walked down into The DIG (their aquarium) and through it, and hit the water park side of Atlantis. There are plenty of slides, plenty of food kiosks, the beach, aquarium, and even just walking through Atlantis is amazing. We had to watch our time as we needed to be back on board by 5pm, and it was hard to squeeze it all in! Fun times to be had at Atlantis!:goodvibes

We love walking over to Fort Fincastle and Queens Staircase. The views from atop the fort are pretty, especially the view of the ships in port! Queens Staircase is quite beautiful. The walk is about a mile, and is more uphill on the way there. You can always catch a cab as well. :)
