I bought a cheap hotel package for the Bahamas for for 3 nights/4 days. I am looking into airfare from WI to Freeport Bahama's and it's over $600 pp. WHAT!!!!!!!!

We are open for our dates, I'm not sure what is cheapers for dates so I was searching all different months. From what I can tell there are only a handfull of US planes that fly into Freeport. All the flights were 2 stops or more and about 7-10 hours to arrive at the airport. There has got to be some better economic options.

My DH and I have never gone on a vaction by ourselves. This one seems a little outrageous. Plus we want to save for a Disney family trip.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge?

This is what has stopped us from taking advantage of the offerings on the daily deal sites so far. I would suggest setting up an alert with Priceline so you can see if fares drop. Do you have any airline miles you can use? I'm saving all my credit card points for airfare. Also if you can, try a different airport than the one closest to you. I always check the airports around me. Sometimes an hour or two drive can save you a lot

Can you "return" the Freeport vacation and get one for somewhere else, like Grand Bahama (or even San Juan) where there may be a direct flight?

That's the problem with a lot of Caribbean/Bahamas vacations - multiple flights to get there.

Kayak.com is good for the major airlines, but doesn't include the discount airlines. Mid-week flights also tend to be cheaper.

Airfare to the Caribbean from Wi can be outrageous. We used to go to Beaches Turks & Caicos in Feb and WDW in the fall Oct. or Dec. But we have stopped the T & C trip as the airfare is out of hand. Now with DD we can only go on specific dates but for the 3 of us the airfare was over $2500. The best thing I can suggest is to try and go mid week as leaving on a week day is usually cheaper. Also see if flying out of Chicago can eliminate one stop. We are only 2 hours away so we use that option some times.:)
