We are thinking of doing a Bahamas cruise in November from Port Canavarel. I'm worried about hurricanes - is that silly or a reasonable concern?

Reasonable concern but hurricane season is pretty long. I believe there would be less chance at the end then toward the beginning. I went the first week in November and the weather was pretty bad we couldn't go to Castaway Cay. So if the possibility of having a hurricane will ruin your vacation pick Jan or Feb.

Interesting thread... What about November 30? That is the date we picked because I was told that is when hurricane season is over.

That is the end of hurricane season. I am a Floridian, there have been a few times where something is out there past the 30th, but nothing that became a major storm that I can remember.

It depends. We went in November 2012, and Hurricane Sandy had just been through a week or two before us. We were fine for our cruise, but our glass bottom boat tour was cancelled because of hurricane damage to the boat. (We ended up doing Atlantis instead.)

I live in Florida and I took my first Disney cruise out of port Canaveral the first week of December and luckily for us the weather was beautiful (around 80 degrees) we were even able to get in the water at castaway cay. However when i spoke with some cast members they informed me that just the week before it rained all day at Castaway and no one really even got off the boat. If you have a bit more room to go in December or even January I would recommend it. I would also take some time and look at personal navigators from last year around that time since they include the weather forecast in them as well just to get and idea of what you may be able to expect. :)

Is the water too cold to enjoy in January or February?
It may be depending on where you are coming from. If you are from a colder climate, not at all. Those of us living in Florida may find 65-70 degree water to be on the cooler side from what we are used to. But all the pools on the boat are heated once the temp drops below a certain point so you will be able to enjoy a good swim around the boat.

We cruised in November 2014 and while lots of people found the water in CC fine, it was a little chilly for us. But, we're from Texas, so perhaps that's the reason we felt chilled. It was perfectly comfortable to lay out in a lounge chair, though.

We cruised to the Bahamas last November. It rained at the sailaway party and the rest of the cruise was perfect weather. The cruise director did say that it was the best weather they had seen in weeks so I think November is pretty risky. We also sailed the Bahamas in February. We had beautiful weather but the water was very cold at Castaway Cay.
