I'll join you with the Bah Humbugs.
I haven't felt the Christmas Spirit in years. Right or wrong I attribute it to the following:
- I do the vast majority of the shopping* and all the wrapping.
- We're expected at places that I no longer enjoy going to
- I do all the decorating**
- We have dinner here so there's lots of cleaning to do, all up to me
- I do all the cooking and baking
My family (DH, DS15 & DS11) isn't the helping sort. There's always a TV show they just can't miss. A video game they are right in the middle of. Some place else they just have to be. Or, no matter how patiently I explain something, they just can't understand the instructions.
*Shopping - I even buy and wrap my own gifts.
**Decorating - this year I told my family that if they wanted a tree they needed to do more than just watch me. Well, the tree is up and has about 10 ornaments on it. It's been that way for 2+ weeks. I'm not going to knock myself out when it clearly doesn't mean much to them one way or another.
Maybe the Christmas Spirit will catch up with me one year. I'm slowly doing less and less. This year, for example, not decorating and I've scaled back on the dinner menu.
I'm too old to be supermom/wife/hostess/BettyCrocker/Martha Stewart.
