Bags packed and ready to go. Our Disney Treasure Cruise to The Virgin Islands

Wednesday January 8th

8am sharp our breakfast arrived, coffee, OJ, and some pastries. They don’t have eggs and such available for room service so if that is what your looking for you would need to go to one of the restauants or buffet. I never eat a big breakfast so this was great.

Getting ready for a day in the US virgin Islands. So we did not make the ride to St Johns so we just walked out on the dock and decided to just take the skyride to the top of the mountain. Well it seems 6 cruise ships decided to dock at the same time and it was just a mad house out on the streets. When we got to the skyride the line was all the way down the streets. Seeing no movement of cable cars at all we decided that we would be in line for hours and thought it best to go back to the boat and relax. Later our daughter and her husband sent us pictures at the top of the mountain, which was hours later. They said the line was not long and it moved really fast.

My wife sat out on our veranda and I went to the adult pool and just relaxed. The family decided to do there own thing. I went to lay down on this really nice circular couch but one person was smoking, I was thinking of moving but then I heard a guy come up and yell to his friends hey we can smoke cigars here, that was my que to get out of there. I found a nice lounge area with a pool and no one was in it. Relaxed for a while and thought it best to get back to the room and get ready for dinner.

Tonight dinner is at the Marvel dining room. Tonight the food was good, service was excellent. Afterwards we went to the outdoor movie theater and watched the movie of the night, the good dinosaur with the kids. After the movie we attended the magic show with Jessica Jane. Very good and entertaining.

Time to go back to the room and let the kids run around the connecting rooms and get tired, it worked but it was me who got tired. Tonight we turn the clocks back one hour and spend all day cruising across the ocean and on Friday we will be at Cast away Kay.

Really enjoying your report. A quick question, was this person smoking in a designated area, or was this just someone who didn't feel the rules apply to them?

Thursday January 9th
One hour time change. woke up and we were on our way to Castaway Cay. Looks like the temperature is only 66 degrees tomorrow. Got ready and left for breakfast at 1923. No line so we were seated right away. The waiter and his assistant must have been from a back of the house job and not used to guest service. They tried but just could not get it. The waiter was full of himself and his partner, well she just could not keep up at all. Ordered coffee with cream, had to keep asking for cream until my coffee was to cold to drink so I excused myself from the table and said I will be right back. Went to the 11th floor and got my own coffee and came back down to the 3rd floor to the restaurant and nothing changed. Well it just kept getting worse. So we left, I know things happen and we were not upset. Up until then service was exceptional.
We are now out to sea since pulling away from the US Virgin Islands and will be out to sea until tomorrow. Yes again the boat rocking back and fourth, side to side and my stomach is doing flip flops but those sea bands on my wrist work great, never felt sick just very light headed. Very cloudy but a comfortable warm strong wind out. Went to guest services to straighten out some things and now back in our state room relaxing.
The kids are at the splash pad so we thought we would meet them there. Our grandson told us that they were told his one year old was not allowed in the kids pool since he was not potty trained even with swimmies on. Really Disney, you are a childs paradise and you do not have a pool for one year olds, only the splash pool? Most pools anywhere allow kids in as long as they have a swimmies diaper on.
Rough seas white caps and large waves, hard to walk straight, head is cloudy but not sick to my stomach. Others also are finding it hard to walk straight. My wife went back to the state room and wanted to take a nap. Walked all over the outside looking for an outdoor chair to lounge on but I guess others felt the same way so I found some comfy chairs on the 5th floor off the top of the large foyer entrance indoors. At least its quiet.
We changed out special dinner for tonight instead of tomorrow since small children are not allowed. We will go with our daughter and son in law tonight and tomorrow my grandson and his wife will go and we will watch the kids. We tried out the kids activity center where they could stay while all 6 of us went to dinner but the kids would not have it. The baby cried for his mom and the 4 year old would not even try it. Last two nights our daughter watched the kids, (her grand kids) while her son and daughter in law went out so we decided that we would watch the kids while they go out.
With almost no chairs available out side and we are only at half capacity I can’t imagine if we were at 100%. As we make our way across the ocean, the further north we travel the cooler it gets. Leaving the Virgin Islands it was hot, now its only cool, when the sun is behing the clouds which is most of the day so far it is a bit chilly. Tomorrow is our last day, it goes so fast.
We got dressed up for one of the signature restaurants tonight, Palo. Tonight and as I said it will be just my wife and I, along with our daughter and son in law since the kids would not go to the Oceaneer club for the 4 year old and the nursery for the one year old we decided to split it up. Tomorrow our grandson and his wife will go and we will keep the kids with us.
When I say this was the roughest ride we have had all trip I am not exagerating. By the time desert arrived I was so sick from being tossed around all day and now its even worse, if it could get worse. I tried to hold on but even my sea bands couldn’t help me at this point. I got up in mid conversation and said I need to go. I told them to enjoy themselves, my wife knew that I held on as long as I could and told me to go back to the state room and lay down. I did just that. Tomorrow we have a Cabana on Castaway Cay. Till then, I will just eat a few chunks of Ginger and sleep. Speaking of Ginger, bring crystalized ginger with you. This is a wonder if your stomach is upset. If you don’t want the sugar I just rinse it off.

Last full day Friday January 10th.

Woke up at 6am and felt so much better. Ordered coffee from room service and watched us pull into Castaway Cay, the best part of it is no rocking back and fourth…up and down. Just talking about it makes me wooooozzzzy.

Looking forward to relaxing on the beach, even though right now it is chilly, low 60’s and should make it to 70 degrees by 11. Maybe no beach swimming but just sitting in a beach chair listening to the ocean is good enough for me.

Now docked and its time to get off the ship. Feels so great to get off the ship and not be tossed around. We were taken to our cabana. We had a very comfortable cabana and the staff was just great. The water was about 6 inches to 1 foot deep, cold but the weather was just beautiful we all sat out and had a great family time together.

At 11:30 food was served and it was just a short walk from our cabana. The food was BBQ and very good. The ribs were juicy and fall of the bone good, brisket was great along with the chicken. Sides were good too. We went back to our cabana and relaxed until about 3:30. Most of us elected to walk back to the boat instead getting a ride from the cabana.

Castaway Cay is a beautiful Island with a tropical beachy vibe. I would love to suggest that they have a boat from Florida that just goes to Castaway Cay and remains docked there for at least 2 or 3 days and acts as a hotel for the island. Every day you get up and enjoy the beautiful island and all it has to offer instead of going from island to island with just a few hours stop at each one. Just a suggestion. The staff on the island is top notch better than any of the islands we stopped at through out our cruise.

Well its back to the ship and get ready for dinner. Time to say good bye to our waiters Ashang and Kris who followed us all week and gave us great service, the manager Cindy who stopped by our table every night to make sure we were having a great time, the Cast member Bhanu who made sure our room was ready during the day and again at night before bed. These people made a difference in just a good time to a great time. While I thought the ship itself be it because of weather, current or heavy winds made some a little uncomfortable to down right sea sick, I am sure it was of no fault to Disney or even the ship. All our bags are packed and they came and picked them up. We kept one behind to pack some last minute items we needed for the morning. Time for some sleep we have a long travel day home to the West Coast tomorrow.

Saturday January 11th

Got up at 6:30am. So sad our vacation was over. We went down to breakfast at 8 oclock and after breakfast we left the ship. We boarded a Disney Express but to Orlando Airport MCO and in 1 hour we arrived at the airport.

Something that they should tell anyone riding this bus is when they stop at Terminal B they remove everyones luggage and you are on your own. I mention this because when we pulled up there was a Southwest outside checkin there and the line was extreemly long. This puzzled us since the Southwest check in was in terminal 1. So we were suprised that they unloaded our luggage. Well we saw the check in and figured thats why they let us off. We got in the line and by the time we got up to the check in about 35 minutes passed. We handed our id’s to the girl and she said we needed to show what flight we were on. Again we were puzzled and asked can’t you just look it up with our Id’s. No they said and then they asked what time our flight was and we said 12:55, well it was now 11:00am and she told us we would need to go to terminal 1 with our luggage since it was less than 2 hours. WHAT! My wife and I have 4 checked bags along with our carry ons. We have our grandson and grand daughter in law two small children in strollers all their carryons and 4 more bags that needed to be checked. How on earth do you expect us to make that treck with all this. Well she said we can’t take you. We asked for the manager and one came up and had someone who was visably annoyed that he was made to check us in and get our luggage. We decided that next time we would not use Disney transportation bus’s on a return from either the parks or cruise, we will hire an out side company and they can drop us off at the terminal our airline is at, and yes they took everyones luggage out of the bus and it did not matter what airline you were on. This was crazy. Since we did stay at the Beach Club before the cruise it was convienent that they picked our luggage up at the room and the next time we saw it was delivered to our stateroom on the ship.

Sorry about the airport but they always drop off there and people make it to what ever airline they are taking. The buses are filled up but they don’t ask what airline your going too.

We usually have to hold on to our luggage because our flights are later. We find some where to sit . Then go back to hand in our luggage.

I enjoyed reading your trip report.
