Bags and Lockers....

Hi folks,
We are headed for the long drive from Ontario to Orlando in three weeks time. Doing a split stay between Universal and Disney.

I have a question regarding bags/cameras and going on rides at Universal. I read in a great trip report of the person being told to go put her bag in a locker before getting on the ride.

Can someone explain this to me - does it depend on the size of bag? If you use a Universal locker, are they pay one time or everytime you go into it? What are the costs of the lockers?

As you know at Disney, you can carry your bags on rides with you, but at several Universal rides you'll be asked to place the bag in a locker. The rides where you'll be asked to store your belongings include: Mummy, MIB, Hulk and Dueling Dragons. The lockers at these locations are provided free of charge for a short period of time - long enough to wait in line and ride the attraction. Any length of time past that and you'll pay to retrieve your items.

There are also lockers available at Jurassic Park River Adventure and Dudley Do Right's, but these lockers aren't free. Popeye's & Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges has a storage area in the center of the boat that is covered with plastic and Dr. Doom's Fear Fall has a small storage area where you can stow your bags, glasses and slip on shoes.

I've heard the ride operators will allow small waist packs, but I've never tried that.

if you use the free lockers and go past your time due to a longer wait in line than posted, the TM will open the locker for you at no charge.


they are aware when the wait times change.
that can happen while you are in line for the ride or if the ride develops technical issues and makes the ride wait longer.


the reason for the lockers is for safety.
on those coaster rides, if anything would fall out of your hands, pockets, it could cause the ride to stop if anything was on the rail.

since it is required that no bags be on the ride, the lockers are free for the riders.

on the Hulk ride, there is a safety net under the ride right at the walk way to marvel land. look up at that net sometimes and see what is in it.
this prevents the guests that are walking into marvel land being hit by flying objects.

I had no problem going on all the rides with a small waist pack.

Yeah, just remmeber that the only ones REQUIRED for bag storage are Hulk, Dragons, MIB and Mummy. Everything else you are permitted to bring bags on with you.

Also do not be sneaky about it. If you reach the loading platform for these 4 attractions and are caught with a bag, you are considered a non-rider and will be sent back down to the lockers.
