Bagless Line

I'm planning my first bagless trip to Animal Kingdom next week. Do you think that I can carry a pair of flip flops in my hands through that line, or will they redirect me to the bag line? I don't expect to be carrying anything else in my pockets except for sunscreen and a phone, so I won't be conspicuous.

Sure. I've gone through the no bags line with something in my hand many times (camera, water bottle, etc). As long as it is something you couldn't conceal something in you should be fine.

Flipflops are not a bag so no you would not be directed to the bag line.

Just my personal opinion though going through the bag line is just as easy because when you go bnagless you have multiple things in your pockets that need to be removed and then put back in.
During my most recent trip in April my dad went bagless and the rest of us had a bag.
We were done with bag check and metal detector before he was able to put his stuff back in his pockets.

Do you only have to empty your pockets if you have metal in them? Or just if you set off the metal detector? Or do you have to empty your pockets regardless of what is in them?

Can't speak for the current process but in mid April they we're telling people to empty their pockets and place all items in the bin and walk through and put their items back in their pockets. Not very time saving if you are trying to utilize your pockets like a bag. If you legit only carry a phone then it would be time saving though.

Curious, what are you going to do with the flip flops while you walk around the park? I'm assuming you are bringing them for KRR.

We always go through the bagless line because we are bagless. I often have my phone in my hand if I'm moving FP or making an ADR while walking in. They don't send us through the bag line just because I have something in my hand.
And we rarely go through the metal detectors except for at IG. I can't remember the last time any of us were selected for a random screening.
When they first installed them they pulled more guests but our 2 trips this year haven't been that way. 10 days in May/June and not once

I get pulled every time for the metal detector  Only thing they have me remove from pockets is phone and anything metal. I don't carry a bag either :)

No bag here either. I carry phone in my pocket and paperback in my hand.

The plan is to hit Pandora with them in hand and then go directly to Kali afterward. From there, it depends. I expect that we'll buy something in the park, so we'll have a bag, or we'll just keep carrying them. I'm totally overthinking it, but I also considered using a string to hang them over my shoulder.

Honestly I'd consider purchasing a pair from like the dollar store and then just toss them after the ride.
Why bother going bagless if you're going to buy something so you have a shopping bag to carry your flipflops in the rest of the day?

There is a very specific plan to buy something that my son has always wanted, so it's not exclusively to carry the flip flops - just a nice fringe benefit and works to our advantage. We like to use those bags all year long at home for various purposes, so I can feel a little less guilty about taking the bag and hang onto our cheap flip flops for future use. Wins all around!

To each their own but still seems like a hassle to carry a shopping bag around all day.
If the item you are buying is not going to be used throughout the rest of the day you could just have that sent to the front of the park so you wouldn't have to carry something around.
The advantage of going bagless is lost in my opinon when you then have to carry a shopping bag.
I'd rather take an extra minute at security for bag check than carry a shopping bag.
Again though just me talking if it works for you then go for it.

Stuff a little plastic grocery bag in your pocket until u get through bag check then pull it out and put the flip flops and sunscreen etc in it. (That's what I would do anyway)

I'm in the it's a big pain to carry Disney shopping bags all day. I'd rather do bag check. If anything I'd get a string style backpack and put it in my pocket through bag check and then put my shoes in it

A paperback? As in a book? To read? While at Disney? That seems like an odd thing to do at a theme park

They seemed to be having everyone without bags go through metal detectors at the main EP entrance this Wednesday, I assume that's unusual though. I also assume they really only want you to remove metal objects if you go through them, that's all they mean

They did the same thing last September as well. My husband always had the bag so he would go to one line and my daughter and I would have to go through the metal detectors. I think it's a great idea and took no extra time at all.

That may be more common. We tend to go in the IG at Epcot more than the main entrance.
