Bag or no bag?

Hi all,

My daughters and I will be visiting Universal in mid-December. It is marked as a 'slow' time of the year to visit. When speaking to a friend of mine who visited during the summer, she said they wished that they had not brought a bag with them, as the bag check at the front of the park and the lockers for the rides were time consuming and frustrating.

But... I would rather bring a bag into the parks for holding ponchos (getting wet on rides in December does not appeal to me), water bottles, souvenirs etc. What would be your advice on taking bags into the parks during a slower time of the year?

Thanks,
Kathy

Using the lockers is quite easy but it is an inconvenience. You shouldn't have to wait for a locker in early December.

We have used the free lockers at the rides many times. They just require an extra stop but I have found them to be very easy to use.

you could use the all day family lockers at the front of the park.
you can reopen it any number of times that day.

when you decide to do a water ride, go back to the locker and get the ponchos.
no need to carry a large bag with you all day in the park.

souvenirs you buy at any of the shops can be set up to be held for you until you are ready to leave the park for the day/night.

have the TM do the paperwork to have your purchase sent to the front of the park store and held there.
easy peasy.

pick up your items once you done with the park that day.

I have the same concerns and questions about lockers. This will be my first time visiting both parks on two separate days. I plan to hit many of the rides but was curious what to do with all the souvenirs I plan to buy during the day.

Will the lockers be able to hold most the stuff I buy. Which lockers do I use, the ones in front of the park and I believe I just read one of the posters say that, the stores would hold your items before you leave the park. Is this true and how does this work? My worry is, I don't wish to be walking all over the place with 2-3 bags of stuff. I just want to enjoy both days and some great rides.

Do what Mac says for souvenirs.

To reduce frustration for the free lockers, use your knuckles to tap the screen not your fingers. The screens like to respond to knuckles easier. (Of course there's the fingerscan, use your fingerprint area for that, but to get through the screens, use the knuckle)

If you need more than one free locker and you have more than one adult, split up and get them quicker than going one by one.

Head towards the back of the free locker area. People tend to clump up front and don't know there are more in back.

Augh, not noticing autocorrect problems is so embarrassing.

Other than Forbidden Journey (which I hear is better now) I've never had any troubles with the free lockers. I haven't used the ones at Gringotts yet. Souvenirs can also be sent to your resort if your staying onsite or to the front of the park. So, unless it's something like the interactive wands that you'll want to use during your day I'd use one of the delivery services.

I go bag-less...the one time I didn't I seem to get stuck behind every single HUGE tour group that decided to slam the lockers at the same time..Did it once , not again

Take a fanny pack and use the small disposable ponchos for the water rides. Those will fit easily in a fanny pack. You'll be glad you don't have to mess with the lockers.

But they want to bring water bottles and buy souvenirs. Small waistpacks (oh our poor Australian readers when we use that f-word for waistpacks) aren't adequate for a water bottle.

Cups of ice water are free all throughout the park and souvenirs can be sent to guest services. IMHO...bags just are not worth the hassle at Universal. I have a 'waistpack' that hold quite a bit. Best thing I ever bought for Universal trips:goodvibes!

Hi All! Just returned today and I had planned on just going bag free but ended up needing a lot of items for my park days. I found the lockers to be relatively easy to use and not at all too full for a 2 or 3 crowd level day. I made a point of using the furthest locker bank from the entrance and never had a problem. They always worked as promised. I enjoyed having the extra "stuff" with me in the parks and didn't mind using lockers at all.

Just a warning, can't wear these on Rip Ride Rocket any longer. Have to put them in lockers. It was mentioned on this board earlier this week and I saw two very unhappy having to take theirs off to ride when I was there last week.

Also of note...you can't have anything in your pockets for Rip Ride Rockit either..even if your pocket has a zipper, buttons, or velcro. We had to re-rent our locker to put DBF's glasses case into it.
